HOW DOES A FAULT OCCUR?
A fault occurs by 2 plates sliding along each other and then breaking. Faults result (an force) applied by tectonic movement.

TYPES OF FAULTThere are three major types of fault; Normal fault Reverse faultStrike-slip fault

NORMAL FAULTThe hanging wall moves down relative to the foot wall.
This fault type is caused by tensional stress.

REVERSE FAULT
The hanging wall moves up relative to the foot wall.
This fault is caused by compressional stress.

STRIKE-SLIP FAULT
The fault exists between two pieces of crust and the Movement occurs horizontally where the sides slide past each other.
