Attend your unit success meeting; note your calendar to attend for the next 12 weeks. Fill out your Independent Beauty Consultant Profile. Send a copy to Faith with a picture.

Book Change your answering machine message to include your business greeting. Think about who you want to share your business with first! Fill out the contact list. Book your first class/debut Book 8 more classes to hold your first 5. Hold 5 classes or facial 15 faces in a two week period to earn your Perfect Start pin. Go on to do 5 more classes or 15 more faces in the

next 2 weeks and you will have held 10 classes or 30 faces for your Power Start. And do 6 interviews in that 30 days to earn your Power Start Plus pin.

and customer profile cards. One easy way is to file the profile card with the sales tickets directly behind the profile card for easy access. You will ALWAYS want to enter your customer information into "My Customers" online at www.marykayintouch.com and your sales into your online weekly accomplishment sheet!

Small Notebook / mileage log (keep in car) It is important that you RECORD weekly!!! Your tax accountant will probably want to know your beginning and ending car mileage for the year and how many of those miles were for Mary Kay. Remember, you can record miles to and from meetings, shows, shopping for MK related items, and vacations where you work in MK legitimately (facials, interviews, etc.) Accordion file for your receipts Label the tabs on the accordion file things like office supplies, postage, cell phone bill, internet, entertainment, travel, seminars, etc. Make it a habit to file your receipts by type of expense. At the end of each month, go through your file and track your business related expenses using Microsoft Money, Microsoft Excel, a business organization program or an Expense Tracking Form. Then file the paperwork for the month in your Filing Cabinet or crates. Discipline in this area of your business is critical so you mentally feel on top of your business expenses. Make a monthly appointment for yourself to do this task, just as you would for your Weekly Success Meeting, Motivational/Inspirational and Mary Kay Educational Reading and Personal Pampering. (you're doing this already, right?) 1” Binder—LABEL “Finance” This binder is for ALL financial transactions! Here is where you will include print-outs of your Weekly Accomplishment Sheets after you fill them out online and send them to Faith. You will also want to include any Commission Statements from the company & all your packing slips from your shipments. 1” Binder—LABEL “APPLAUSE MAGAZINES” Put 12 sheet protectors inside and place your “Applause Magazine” in this binder after you are finished with it at the end of each month. Some Absolute Do's

For Your Mary Kay Career 1. DO wear tailored dresses and skirted suits to ALL skin care classes,

meetings and recruiting interviews. Research shows that a woman in a skirt inspires trust, appears better educated and looks more professional. That's the Mary Kay Consultant and Future Leader.

2. DO tell your invited guests to dress PROFESSIONALLY

when attending an event with you. 3. DO wear ALL of and ONLY Mary Kay skin care, body care and color

products, Preferably all of the time but definitely to skin care classes, selling appointments, meetings and recruiting interviews.

4. Do be positive about your business at all times, especially at meetings! If you had

a prospective recruit present, would you want that person to hear a Consultant complaining about a problem?

5. DO make it a priority to attend EVERY unit meeting and as many functions as

time will allow. You will gain ideas at every function that will help you reach your goals and your business will grow. DO bring a friend, customer, hostess or prospect to every meeting. They may become your newest recruit!

6. DO allow your customers to do all of their own applications at skin care classes and

facials. They will have confidence that they can recreate the look themselves. In some states, it is illegal to touch another persons face if you are not a licensed

cosmetologist, so make it a rule of thumb to not do it! 7. DO sell the basic skin care steps together to the first time user. It is a company

policy never to break the set except to established reorder customers. Breaking the set inevitably results in dissatisfied customers and usually a return for a refund. Learn how to explain the reason for using the products together to your customer's satisfaction during your presentation.

8. DO have respect for your sister Consultants. Selling or recruiting another

Consultants customer or prospect is unfair and it does not promote the "Do unto others" philosophy. Always ask if they already have a Consultant.

9. DO follow the terms and conditions on the Beauty Consultant Agreement you

signed. Consultants are not allowed to sell products in a retail environment. i.e., flea markets, beauty shops, booths, etc.

10. DO call Mary Kay before you do any advertising. All advertisements must be

approved by Mary Kay. Check out the camera ready ads on the intouch website. Yellow Page advertisements are available to Sales Directors ONLY!!

Smart Inventory! How to Work Smart, Not Hard! You are now in business for yourself and any good retail business needs inventory to sell. This sheet is designed to show you how to start your business and how to manage your money so that you always have plenty of merchandise on your shelf and profit to pay your bills, buy clothes, take trips, etc. BENEFITS OF HAVING PRODUCT / INVENTORY ON HAND

1. Women’s cosmetic buying habits are – purchasing on the spot and taking it home. 2. The Customer Service Institute estimates that “It cost five times as much to get a new customer as

it costs to service an existing one.” Have what they need to service them immediately. 3. You will sell more products if you display your entire product line. Your customers

buy what they see. They are emotional and impulse buyers and want it now!!! 4. You will book more second advanced color and supplement appointments. 5. You save time when you have no deliveries and time is money. You save

gasoline too! 6. Customers will reorder after 30 days. You need product to be able to deliver

the same day. 7. Customers do not call a week in advance to reorder. 8. Delivering product two weeks after a customer orders is not considered convenient or good

customer service. If you don’t have it, they will buy the product from the grocery store, drug store, or call another Mary Kay consultant.

FOUR BASIC STOCKING OPTIONS Most consultants’ stock product however, it is not mandatory. The choice is yours. You can:

1. Take orders 2. Stock training inventory (fits in a boot box) 3. Half stock (at least one of each item in our product line) 4. Full stock (three of each item in our product line)

Your cash flow will basically work this way: A skin care class average retail sales is $200 - $400. The calculations below are based on a

$200.00 skin care class. FULL STOCK CASH FLOW (You can spend profit immediately)

Tips for setting up your inventory space Some consultants keep their inventory in boxes but you may want to clear off a closet shelf. When stored properly without excessive cold or heat, most Mary Kay products have a 3 year shelf life. As you reorder from the company you’ll want to put the new be-hind or under the current stock. Then you will be sure to sell your older inventory first. THE VALUE OF GOOD INVENTORY

Maintaining a good inventory is the first step towards building a strong customer service business. Just as you depend on your florist to carry fresh flowers, your clients depend on you to offer the same professional service. A good inventory will also motivate you to reach higher sales goals, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce business costs.

Some new recruits and potential recruits do not understand the total value of their initial order for their inventory. This is very understandable because it is new and let’s face it, borrowing money can be a little overwhelming. However, you are borrowing money to make money. In addition, you’re making 50% on your money. That’s a good investment.

We must remember from the beginning that starting our own business with inventory is one of the keys to success. Can you imagine the difficulty of a retail store opening for business with a couple of items versus the same store with complete inventory? What the eye sees, the eye will buy. Customers will purchase more when they can feel, touch, and smell it. Some refer to it as impulse buying. Think of how many time we go to the grocery store for a gallon of milk, do we ever leave with just a gallon of milk? Of course not, we pick up dog food, bread, chips, etc. OUR FIRST FEAR – BORROWING

Many bankers are more willing to make a loan to a stable woman, regardless of age, than a man, as they have a better repayment record. That usually means if we try to do something, we usually do it. Isn’t that the first thing we learn in Mary Kay from our Recruiter and Director, “You can do it!” Remember, the Company offers the 90% buyback guarantee. Don’t just try one source when you borrow. – Donald Trump wouldn’t have given up after visiting only one bank. OUR SECOND FEAR – INTEREST RATES

Is money too high? Should I wait? Should I only order a minimum amount? Do not let these things bother you. You are not borrowing that much and it’s only short term. Do you realize there is only a $35.00 difference between borrowing $3,600 for six months at 18% versus 14%? Did you realize that if you borrow $600.00 at 18% for six months versus borrowing 3,600 that is only about $95 more?

Would you rather go to a clothing store and see what you need and buy it, or would you rather wait until they ordered it? Would you rather make one trip to one appointment and sell product to 3 people at one time or would you rather take orders and make 3 additional deliveries? If you don’t have product at your appointment, how many customers will say “No, or I guess you can call me when you get it”? In other words, HOW MANY SALES ARE YOU GOING TO LOSE and how many additional hours will you work delivering, reselling, collecting, and revisiting to finally collect your profit? Time is precious to everyone and we are all given the same amount of hours in a day. By starting your business at profit level of $3600, your business will run much smoother. Remember, you can’t sell out of an empty wagon. OUR THIRD FEAR – CAN I PAY IT OFF?

The average conservative sale is $200. That means you will make $100 profit at that appointment. Depending on how much time you take. Also, after 30 days your reorder business will kick in, and that’s another 50% profit. What does that mean? It adds up to this. If you only hold 3 appointments per week, you can pay your loan and have a profit too. More importantly, you have $3600 worth of product that you own, and it worth $7200.

Planning a good inventory is vital to building a strong, growing business. Without products, you can’t sell them and without sales, you are out of business. Keep your product inventory up to date and plan for your future needs. P.S. As you begin to build your team, your new consultants will always ask, “Where did you start?” They follow in your footsteps. You don’t want to say, “Well, if I could do it over again….”

8 Ways / Places to Borrow Money

1. Borrow against a CD or a savings account. Remember that we talked about not using your own money. Borrow against it, and set up a loan payment so that you are accountable back to yourself each month. It has also been my experience that consultants who have loans, tend to be more focused and more consistent with their efforts.

2. Credit Unions. They tend to be more user friendly, and their interest rates

tend to be lower. Check out the credit union for you and for your significant other.

3. Banks. Always start with the bank you or your family has

banked with for years. Don’t take offense if they ask for collateral. Dress professionally, muster up all the confidence you can and ask for more than you need, and take what you can get.

4. Low rate interest credit cards. It’s generally a good idea to use your spouse

as a co-applicant to increase your chances of getting the card and possibly getting a higher limit. Even if you decide to use a bank loan for the bulk of your inventory, a separate credit account is convenient to use for your monthly orders. You’ll receive product more quickly.

5. Borrow the money from a relative or friend. Or use them as a co-signer. This

option sometimes works for people who have unfortunate credit or have had some inopportune experience with their credit rating in the past. Treat this the same way as you would a bank loan so that you repay your relative or friend as you would the bank.

6. Borrow from a Life insurance policy. If you’ve built equity in

a life insurance policy you can borrow against it, like a savings account at competitive interest rates and face value of the policy will be reestablished when the loan is paid in full.

7. Have a Yard Sale. Sell that stuff you don’t need and don’t use! Who knows

how much money you can generate? And you’ll make some space for your inventory!

8. A high interest rate credit card. With this option, you’ll

need to work hard to pay it off within the year, although your interest charges are tax deductions.

Remember, where there's a will, there's always a way! Expect to get your business off to a powerful start! The main thing is that you just get STARTED!

Pearls of Sharing Information (1) As a consultant, you may run into people who are interested in this opportunity for themselves. You will want to know how to answer their questions and how to tell them about Mary Kay, especially all of the new aspects of the marketing plan. Let’s go ahead and pull your hair back. There are headbands on the table, and we’ll start our facial. Your

cleanser is in your tray. (pass around individual damp washcloths). Use the cloth to dampen your face, and then apply

PAGE 11: Okay, I’ve gone through a lot of products, so let’s review your morning and evening routines really quick. In the morning you

start with your Cleanser, Day Solution, Moisturizer, finish off with an Eye Cream, and Foundation. You’re done! At night, you’re going to use your Cleanser, Night Solution, Moisturizer, your Eye Cream and you’re done. Seriously, it will take you three minutes morning and night, to see dramatic results, and your skin will feel so much fresher and

cleaner and renewed. (Show them the Order of Application in the Beauty Book – page 21)

Foundation is the last step to skin care - it protects the skin. Let’s go ahead and apply your foundation. The foundation is in the

third little hole in your tray. Put a few dots on your forehead and blend your forehead, put a few dots on your cheek and blend

your cheek, do one section at a time.

Our liquid Foundation is made with marine extract pigments, which are the highest quality pigments you can purchase, so

a little bit goes a long way. You can actually use a third less of our foundation than you would your normal foundation.

Page 12 : Name game/ Satin Lips We are going to take a break and play a fun game. But first who has challenges with dry cracked lips? I am going to let you sample our Satin Lips which is a 2-part system. What you’re going to do is, when I say go, you’re going to write down as many names and numbers as you can think of on the back of your card. And whoever has the most names and numbers will get to take home the Glamour item they just wrote down. Isn’t that FUN – FREE PRODUCT! Okay, now, there’s only 2 rules: The first rule is you can’t include anyone’s name that is here today. And the second rule is you CAN cheat! You can use your cell phones! So, go ahead and get your cell phones. You’ll have 2 minutes and whoever has the most names and numbers written down will get to take home their must-have glamour item. Okay, READY? SET? GO!!!! (don’t time this…if still writing names and numbers, give more time but while they are writing, squirt Balm in their trays, beginning with the first guest that finishes the name game. Who is familiar with the term “Microdermabrasion?” Women are going to the spa and paying several hundred dollars to get microdermabrasion done professionally, and Mary Kay came out with a Microdermabrasion Set that you use two or three times a week in the shower and you get the exact same results! I LOVE this microdermabrasion! It is my favorite product…you use it one time, and your skin will feel the freshest, the

cleanest, the most renewed it has ever felt. I’m going to pass this around, squirt on back of hand and rub it around feel the texture. It contains the same aluminum

oxide crystals the spa’s use; it’s a heavy-duty exfoliater. I’ll pass around this cloth so you can remove it.

Microdermabrasion instantly fights fine lines, refines your pores and softens your skin. Lots of women complain that their pores are visually large….they say “if there was one thing I could change about my skin, it’s that my pores would be

smaller.” When you refine your pores, it helps with oil control. When your pores are smaller, they produce less oil, when

they’re larger, they produce more oil.

Microdermabrasion also gets rid of all the dead skin cells that dull the skin because the dead skin cells sit on top of your skin. Remember how I talked about that four-week cycle, how your skin cells regenerate themselves and move to the top?

You want to make sure you remove the dead, dull, skin cells. That’s why your skin feels so fresh, polished and smooth

after you use Microdermabrasion. It’s best to do this in the shower because you want to make sure you rinse all of it off.
