14 March 2014 Spring Term: No 9
The sunshine this week has really encouraged the children (and supporters) to come to school on scooters and bikes. At the start of the week around 15% of children were taking part in ‘The Big Pedal’ but by Thursday the figure had risen to 29%!
Our Sustrans wheelie characters have been added to our Big Pedal Wallchart, which is in the Front Reception. With just today’s figures to enter the leaders in the inter-class competition are 3H with a total of 125 journeys, closely followed by Owls with 116 journeys and Robins and Lions in joint third place with 109 journeys.
The final figures and announcement of the winners will be made next week but in the meantime, all the statistics can be found by logging into www.bigpedal.org.uk SD
Parent/Teacher Consultations Wednesday 19 March – 1.30 – 5.00 & 5.30—7.00pm

House Writing Competition Thank you to everyone who entered the House Writing Competition. We enjoyed reading all of
the entries which included a variety of poems and stories. All children who entered the competition
have been awarded 5 house points each, with the winners each receiving 15 points along with a personalised
notepad. The winners of the competition were:
Ollie & Libby’s winning entry, ’How the Dragon Became a Hero’, was a graphic novel, with scenes made from Lego.
Katie Thorpe’s winning entry ‘The Tale of the Two Dragons’ follows:
“Once upon a time there were two dragons. A red dragon
and a blue dragon. They were not friends. The red dragon
went off hunting for food... Now the blue dragon was
alone but suddenly the blue dragon saw a shadow. He
was scared. Then he saw what it was, it was the red drag-
on. The blue dragon hid in the bushes hoping not to be
seen. The red dragon called for the blue dragon, “Blue
dragon, come out wherever you are. I’ll be friends with
you”. So the blue dragon popped out of the bushes. So the
red dragon and the blue dragon were friends and they
lived happily ever after. The end”
Other winning entries will be shared with the children in
assembly and may also feature in future issues of the
Tadworth Times.
Thank you again to everyone who entered—keeeeeep writing! NP, SH, LP, HM, FP

Provision of School Meals at Tadworth Primary With effect from September 2014 all children in
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, will be offered a daily
school meal free of charge. To accommodate this,
we are planning to introduce some changes to our
current system for ordering school dinners which
will be effective from the start of the Summer Term.
Full details can be found in the leEer being sent
with the Tadworth Times today, together with a
reply slip (copies of which will be available from
the Front Reception Desk) to indicate your
child(ren)’s preferred options along with a copy of
the new Menu which will start then. HW
14 March 2014
Dear Parents
Provision of School Meals at Tadworth Primary School
With effect from September 2014 all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, will be offered a daily school
meal free of charge. To accommodate this, we are planning to introduce some changes to our current system
for ordering school dinners which will be effective from the start of the summer term.
From 22 April 2014, all children will need to have a set meal paEern which will either be a meal every day or a
meal on set days of the week. Having submiEed your child’s chosen meal paEern this needs to be adhered to
for the rest of the current half term. If changes are required a revised meal paEern needs to be submiEed prior
to the start of the next half term.
A copy of the summer menu is aEached and will continue to be published and readily available on the web-
site. All children will have the option of the published meal, the vegetarian alternative or a jacket potato. Year
6 children will continue to have the option of a Panini on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A daily register will con-
tinue to be taken when children need to state their choice for the day, (hot dinner, vegetarian, jacket potato or
packed lunch).
On days when children are out on a school trip they will be offered a school packed lunch, this will need to be
ordered when signing up for the trip.
We will review the provision during the summer term but in the meanwhile if you have any comments on the
proposed system, please let us know as we welcome your feedback.
If you are planning for your child/children to have school dinners for the first half of the summer term, can
you please complete the slip below indicating which days of the week they will have a school dinner?
We will write again next term, to all Key Stage 1 parents to find out whether they intend to take up the offer
of a free school meal daily for their child, which we are actively encouraging as a school.
All parents need to be aware that they will no longer be able to drop in/phone on an ad hoc basis to request a
lunch for that day. The only time that parents will be able to sign up for their child to have a one off lunch will
be on a Fun Friday/for special events which will be advertised in advance and which will include a cut-off
date.
Yours sincerely
