What Is IPE ?
AMEC Paragon uses Aveva’s Suite of Applications in
an environment which…
…enables the collaboration
…of all parties
…and all applications
…involved in an EPC project
…executed from multiple locations
…safely, efficiently and effectively

Challenges of a Design Project
The design model must reflect reality (what is to be
built)
Document changes must be controlled
Changes in one document must be reflected in all
documents
Information must be readily available to all
The pieces must fit together when fabricated
![Page 9: Document](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022020419/568bdb081a28ab2034acfce0/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)

Solutions to Design Challenges
The design model must reflect reality (What is to be built)
– Design model must be dynamically linked to P&ID’s and procurement
Document changes must be controlled
– Electronic approvals required for revisions
Changes in one document must be reflected in all documents
– Documents, models and other engineering deliverables must be linked and “red flagged” when a change is made
Information must be readily available to all
– Internet access required
– Documents must be linked for quick reference
The pieces must fit together when fabricated
– Design model must include everything (actual structure, pipe supports, cable trays, realistic valves and controls)
![Page 10: Document](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022020419/568bdb081a28ab2034acfce0/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

Description of IPE
IPE Industry Standard
Trained staff using a common work
process
Each project organized differently
Intelligent P&IDs linked to 3-D Model,
engineering deliverables and
procurement & expediting databases
Separate stand alone databases and
spread sheets
Automatic consistency check between
P&ID, procurement and 3-D Model
Not possible
Electronic control requiring approvals
for issuing revisions
Manual approvals based on signature
block. Revisions can be issued without
proper sign-off
Latest revision automatically available
on electronic document management
system
Manual checking is necessary to
assure the paper document being used
is latest issue. Not possible to assure
destruction of all out of date
documents.

Historical tracking of drafts and
revisions
Manual tracking possible only if old
copies kept and everyone manually
records each change made
All changes “red flagged” on all other
effected documents
Not possible
All documents searchable and cross-
referenced by metadata (e.g. tag
number, PO, line number, etc.)
Not possible
Design done in 3-D Model. Drawings
printed from 3-D Model
Model built from 2-D drawings
3-D Model includes all pipe, pipe
supports, cable trays and controls
Model includes major pipe
3-D Model includes proper coping of
structural joints
Structural members carried to

20% reduction in spool piping field welds
0% rework of piping and structural clashes within the new installation.
Project saved approximately one month of offshore hook-up time at completion
5% reduction of material waste due to lack of interferences, clashes, rerouting, etc.
Reduced Engineering time by up to 10%
Reduced Offshore Visits by up to 70%
Offshore project using laser scanning integrated with PDMS design were cutting edge efforts. The following benefits were obtained :
