War III Talk Foolish, Says Jap Premier
Yosbida Urges People To Keep Their Heads
Tokyo, Dec 31 (#) — Premier Shifcru Ycwhid* said in a year-end ttateraent today that it would be foolish far anyone to consider the Korean war a prelude to World War UL
The Korean incident which arose all of a sudden last June with the invasion by North Korean forces into South Koreaa still goes on,** said Yo-•hida. "But it would be foolish for anyone to take it as a prelude to World War III and go about bewildered and panic-stricken, as though our country were about to be thrown into the tumult of a global conflict.

"The United Nations forces have repeatedly declared their determination not to abandon Korea or with-
/drew from the peninsula," Yoahida * continued. "We should not cause
needless unrest among our people by talking of the imminence of danger. Nor would it be becoming of us as a great nation to be frightened by baseless rumors and false alarms.
"On the other hand," be added, "it would also be rash to conclude that this trouble in Korea is going to be settled quickly. Communism and democracy are incompatible. We should be prepared for the continuation for some time to come of the hold war of nerves between the two-worlds. • n i h i l i a Needed
The groundless reports and rumors that reach our ears are themselves an indication that this war of nerves has come upon us. What is needed at this juncture is the spirit of patriotism and independence and a firm resolve to stay on the side of enact, freedom and justice in the arena of international relations.
I t would be cowardly,'* he con-ctedsl "to look to the right and to the left in doubt and indecision and seek to preserve ourselves by expedients and makeshifts."
