13th Annual Iowa Renaissance Festival & Gathering O' Celts - Labor Day Weekend 2004 - Amana Colonies, Iowa 13th Annual Iowa Renaissance Festival & Gathering O' Celts - Labor Day Weekend 2004 - Amana Colonies, Iowa
From the Producer's ChairYikes! I mean HUZZAH!! This is
our five-year anniversary on the grounds of Medici Grove here in the heart of the historic Amana Colonies. We have been nothing but pleased with the cooperation and enthusiasm of the folks in the Amanas. We must offer special thanks to Steve McKain and the staff of the Amana RV Park who help us set up Middle Amana Park for this annual celebration.
Lady Bonnie and I "discovered" this setting by accident. We first came simply to visit the Amana Art Show during one of their annual August presentations here. Even though I had been scouring Eastern Iowa for five years for a new Iowa Renaissance Festival site (we wanted to move from the State Fairgrounds), it wasn't until I walked across this lawn that I felt we should actually attempt the move.
And now for the future... We need a replica German castle right here on these grounds, right about where the Royal Pavilion sits (in all of its metallic glory). I propose a state-wide fundraiser (a royal tax, if you must) for $1 and $2 donations towards the building of an actual castle and village. If you want your name on a brick, make it $10. Spread the word, far and wide, that even if we don't get our castle built by nextyear, we'll be back with an even more spectacular selection of edutainment and family enjoyment.

Souvenirs!Good syres and ladies, do not forget to stop at the official Faire
souvenir and momento stall near the front gate. Besides the ultimately handsome shirts and tankards, you can also obtain a VHS copy of the new children's movie just completed by our event producer, Sir Gregory. [All God's Children]

Tipping is AppreciatedWhile some of our performers are full time entertainers, most
have day jobs and often have to take time off work to play at these events. Some are even donating their time just for the experience and exposure. In all cases, they appreciate your tips at the end of a show. For some, it is how they will afford gas back home. (Think starving actors working part time at a restaurant, for comparison...) They all thank you for your contributions.
Can There Be Even More Fun...?Be sure to join us for the 2nd Annual Nebraska Renaissance
Faire & Medieval Pageant this September 25th and 26th in Ashland, Nebraska (between Omaha and Lincoln at C.J. Holling Summer Camp), or the special Des Moines Renaissance Faire & Fall Feast October 9th and 10th in Des Moines (at Water Works Park). For more information, visit www.FestInt.com or call (641) 357-5177. We hope to see you at the faire!

Amana Colonies
Did you know there are as many as six renaissance festivals in the state of Iowa each year? There are also dozens of other events, both large and small, within a few hours drive from the borders of Iowa. If you can't visit them all, at least you can read about what you are missing. The Regional Renaissance Reporter will cover all things festival related in the Midwest: faire reviews, merchant and performer articles, fun history (true!), and much more all with a touch of humor worthy of any renaissance festival. Content Contributors: We will be open to submissions of articles, news, letters, ren history papers ... everything except salacious gossip, but regular gossip will be just fine!
The Last HuzzahThe Iowa Renaissance Festival at the Amana Colonies is produced
by Gregory and Bonnie Schmidt of Festivals International. Call our office at (641) 357-5177 or visit www.IowaRenFest.com if you would like to participate in our events or be wedded at this site next year.
