2
Three things to accomplish today
Discuss implementation of the EXPLORE Review of sample student and building data Provide possible uses of the data that
EXPLORE provides to improve High Schooland College/Workforce Success
3
How many of your schools arecurrently using Explore?
Test Administration– Who?– When?– Where?– What were the factors in these decisions?
4
What steps did we use forimplementation of EXPLORE?
Meeting with our Supt. and Board of Education– Funding @ $7.60/student for 120 students– Transition from NCA to MDE School Improvement– Transition from IDEAS test for EDP’s– Commonality with PLAN and ACT
Good decision based on data provided
5
How did we inform stakeholders?
Staff- Fall professional development meeting Students- Classroom visits during Advisory Parents- Parent breakfast open house and
by letter (see handouts)
6
Our model of test administration
Date: Mid December Location: Classrooms Time: Directly after
lunch period Interest inventory
completed on day priorto test
Other factors– Testing accommodations– Less shared staff in PM

7
We wanted to make it a special day sothat kids and parents valued the
testing process…
8
Who was involved?
Staff member planning committee Parent Partnership Organization Food Service 7th Grade students to help set up and take down
9
Students werevery appreciativeof the specialattention

close to the end of theday

Don’t be afraid of your scores/data
Use strengths in data to help solidify goodprograms
Use areas of need to:– Identify possible programming changes– Professional Development– School Improvement Data
16
8th Grade Interventions
Students self identified a need for:– Study skills-Integrated into our Advisory class for
3rd Trimester– Public speaking-Integrated into teacher lesson
plans for 3rd Trimester– College/Career preparedness- Planning for more
career focused presenters next year
17
High School Interventions
HS master schedule adjustments– Reading Class– Small group class– IEP decision points– Counselor/advisor attention
Individual student schedule adjustments Eventually trend data from EXPLORE,PLAN,
ACT
18
How did this affect student HSschedules?
Qualifications (Data)– EXPLORE Early Interventions Roster– Individual student grades– Aimsweb reading assessment scores– IEP decision points for students with disabilities
4
19
Planned Counselor meetings
Planning to arrange meetings 2 times perquarter– Grades/attendance check– Discussion about college/workforce goals– Schedule adjustments/planning
20
How might this affect implementing theEXPLORE in 9th Grade
Districts can still offer EXPLORE in 8th Grade Yearly growth model with testing in 8th, 9th
10th, and 11th Provides for “practice tests” for ACT not at
student’s expense
