155 YACHTFollowing the completion of the first 155 Yacht hull, she is scheduled to be de-moulded during the August shutdown and moved to the fit out bay in Shipyard 4. Fit out staff will join the project immediately after shutdown and commence the lower deck under floor systems and machinery space fit out.

The crew accommodation and lower deck galley are taking up two thirds of the lower deck, and the guest cabins both on the lower deck and main deck will be floating to reduce the transmission of noise and vibration.

Work is well underway on the first set of high resolution CGI images for this exciting project which will be ready for Southampton, Cannes & Monaco Boats Shows and in addition to this, a full scale model is also in production set to appear at Cannes and Monaco boat shows this year.

PORTOFInO 40Sea trials have now taken place on the first Portofino 40 and with the volvo D6 330 achieved average speeds of 34-35 knots. The boat performed extremely well at sea and with your support, this boat will place the Portofino 40 back into a prime position in this smaller boat sector.

Southampton Boat Show will also see the launch of the new Portofino 40 dynamic photo realistic configurator. This will allow hull colours, boot-tops, interior and exterior upholstery options to be presented on screen to achieve the final specification which can also be printed.

Keep you eyes peeled in the Mediterranean as the first boat is set to visit Mallorca, Sardinia and France before moving on to the Cannes Boat Show.

PRODUCTIOn UPDATE

PORTOFInO 40The first Portofino 40 has now come off production and has commenced the test process, with engine and RINA trials taking place this week. The boat looks stunning on water and is set to be a very popular model. The Sunseeker team are now working hard towards streamlining the build process to achieve a five day build. Boat number two is due off line shortly and due in test within the next couple of weeks.

PREDATOR 80The first Predator 80 is now in the final stage of production. The boat has a light, airy feel and looks fantastic. The Predator is in the process of having final parts fitted and will start being tested in the coming weeks. The second Predator 80 has now been de moulded and fit out has commenced. The boat is on schedule and will make its world debut at Southampton boat show.

PREDATOR 68On the day of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, the Sunseeker Willis Way team de moulded the second Predator 68, destined for the 2013 Düsseldorf Boat Show. On a day designed to celebrate elitism it is only fitting that another Sunseeker great begins its journey to inauguration.

Boat #1 (scheduled for the 2013 London Boat Show) is slightly ahead of schedule putting the team on a good footing for this project. Boat #3 (Helsinki show 2013) is ready to start moulding on the 13th August 2012.

Hull #1 with all bulkheads in and windows trimmed displays very early on that this model will be something special with its use of space and natural light sitting hand in hand with the new Ken Freivokh Sunseeker Signature look destined for this vessel.

SUPPlIER FOCUS – SES

SYSTEM ORCA – WI FI , SCI-FI.You have seen the sci-fi movie where the Captain walks into his private cabin on Starship III, picks up his iPad, taps it and the blinds come down. Tap, the aircon kicks in. Tap, the Tv gently rises from the floor. Tap, the lighting dims. Tap, he checks the screen for navigation info, before settling into his chair for the evening; Tap, a gin a tonic slides across from the bar. Sci fi? not really it’s all done on his System Orca and Starship III is a Sunseeker 28 Metre.

The System Orca has been developed by the technology team at SES (Ships Electronic Services) one of Sunseekers electronics and communication suppliers. Launched at this year’s London Boat Show on the new Sunseeker 28 Metre Yacht, the System has now been fitted on several yachts with great success. Orca is a completely innovative control solution that has been specifically designed to offer seamless integration of electrical and electronic installations via any compatible device such as an iPad, iTouch, iPhone, Blackberry, PC or Mac. Android phones, HTC phones, tablets, infrared remote controls and the majority of touch screen interfaces can operate the System Orca. The beauty of the system is its ease of use, once the system has been set up by the SES team of engineers; intuitive graphics enable the user to be proficient within minutes.

SES is a highly experienced, specialist marine electronics company and has developed the System Orca for an environment they understand more than most. System Orca is robust and reliable and can be programmed to control and feedback from a vast variety of onboard systems. Virtually any electronics can be integrated into the system and operated via the inbuilt Orca software, from the users chosen touch screen device. Having a Wi-Fi capability, the network can be operated from anywhere on the yacht and even from a short distance ashore.

With considerable use of wireless technology, SES has been able to produce a system which is not only easy and quick to install in new vessels, it can just as easily be retrofitted to existing yachts with minimal disruption. System Orca has brought the future of automation and control into the domain of today’s Sunseeker.

SUPPlIER FOCUS – SEAkEEPER

SEAkEEPER gYROSCOPIC STABIlIzATIOn – FEElIng IS BElIEvIngControl movement gyroscope stabilization has existed since the early 1900s, albeit only on very large vessels which was subsequently abandoned due to weight and power demands. The recreational marine market instead relied on stabilizing fins for decades, with the constant issue of drag-producing, damage-prone, through-hull appendages.

In the early 2000’s, Seakeeper’s founders reviewed stabilizers in the market and realised modern technology could yield a superior way to bring a whole new level of safety and comfort to boat owners. Owners could now enjoy lunch in a remote bay, and enjoy a family day cruising without seasickness.

Using the most advanced technologies, including aerospace dynamics and automotive motion controls, our first M7000 gyroscopic stabilizer was launched in 2008. And with three defining advantages, the company took the fundamental advantages of gyro stabilization into the 21st Century.

First, its flywheel operates inside a vacuum which allow it to spin much faster than possible in ambient air. The result is much more powerful righting forces, greatly reduced power draw, reduced overall size and weight, and protected critical internal components from the harsh effects of the marine environment. The second advantage is the application of Seakeeper’s proprietary active motion controls algorithms and software that allows the gyro to reduce resonant boat roll by as much as 80% while underway, at slow speed, or at anchor. And third, the patented closed-loop liquid cooling that is used to protect the bearings from excessive heat generated within the vacuum.

Seakeeper’s typical scope of supply includes working closely with naval architects and builders on technical aspects of installation to determine ideal mounting locations and optimum performance. The gyro does not require centerline mounting which means great design flexibility for the designer and builder.

Today, a single M8000 gyro provides stability on Sunseeker Manhattan and Predator models up to 74 feet. Achieving 80% resonant roll reduction on the Sunseeker Manhattan 52, owner Alan Goldstein commented “In Portofino, a large storm rolled in and my boat was the smallest boat in the harbor amongst 100 footers. Everyone from shore saw that we were on the back deck and we weren’t rolling. They thought I had multiple anchors deployed.” With proven results on several Manhattan and Predator models, the continued demand from Sunseeker’s clients proves that gyro technology is a valid, desirable way to create a safer, and far more enjoyable onboard experience.

THE 2012 SEA PICnIC CAUDWEll SHOOTIng CHAllEngE HITS THE TARgET FOR CHIlDREn’S CHARITYThe exclusive Royal Berkshire Shooting School played host to 17 teams from around the UK, all brought together in a quick fire mission to help change the lives of disabled children.

Supported by Sunseeker London, the third Caudwell Children Charity Shooting Challenge saw plenty of smoking guns and a competitive edge amongst guests, who turned out to help raise over £24,000 for the charity.

To the mild surprise of the guests, the sun shone for most of the day, as the team’s battled it out at 150 traps replicating high pheasants, driven grouse and coveys of partridges in a bid to claim the sought-after accolade for ‘Top Gun’.

Voted the UK’s best shooting venue, Royal Berkshire has hosted the Caudwell Childrens charity shoot day since 2010 raising thousands of pounds to help disabled children across the country. Global boat transport specialists, Peters and May, Williams jet tenders and MTU Engines also sponsored the event and enjoyed having their shot at victory on the course.

As the day drew to a close and the guests enjoyed a fabulous three course meal, David Lewis and his Sunseeker team were crowned winners of the first place prize, with David’s daughter Victoria Gerlis taking the title of Best Lady. Fashion designer and philanthropist, Karen Millen, was also amongst guests on the day proving it wasn’t just the men who knew how to point and shoot.

Caudwell Children provide treatment, therapy, equipment and family support services for sick and disabled children throughout the UK. To date Caudwell Children has provided services worth over £20 million to thousands of children with over 450 different medical conditions. Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive for Caudwell Children said, “The shoot day event has become an annual fixture in our fundraising calendar due to its popularity and success in helping change the lives of disabled children. It’s thanks to the exceptional support we receive year on year from Sunseeker London and our other partners that allows us to continue to benefit from such high profile event. We would like to thank Sunseeker London for all their support in making the event happen as well as the sponsors who help us raise the profile of Caudwell Children and the work we do around the country.”

On the 30th June at Anstey’s Cove, Torquay, over 200 guests joined the Trinity Sailing Foundation and Sunseeker Torquay for the fifth ‘Sea Picnic’, in aid of the Brixham-based charity.

The Sea Picnics were instigated by Ranulf Rayner, Vice-President of Trinity, to raise funds for the many hundreds of disadvantaged young people who benefit from sail training on Trinity’s historic vessels each year. The Sea Picnics have turned into a major date in the maritime calendar, and for 2012 Trinity teamed up with Sunseeker Torquay to deliver what was considered by many to be the best so far.

Guests were treated to a three course seafood lunch, with a jazz band and shanty singers, culminating in an air and sea ‘James Bond’ themed spectacular. As the crowds looked on from the cove, the villain ‘Blofeld’ arrived on a Sunseeker Superhawk 40 with an assortment of scoundrels in support (played Tom Wills and Jamie Coombes), who then captured the Trinity sailing trawlers moored in the cove. James Bond 007 arrived by helicopter to recapture the trawlers and see off Blofeld who, and after a number of bombing raids, was eventually captured and brought to land to be paraded in front of the cheering onlookers.

The Sea Picnic auction, which included an array of maritime art and excellent opportunities, helped bring the total raised from the day to just over £27,000.

Toby Russell, Development Manager at Trinity said: “The 2012 Sea Picnic has been a tremendous success, our guests have had a fantastic day in Anstey’s Cove, enjoying the fine food and wine and of course getting to see James Bond defeat Blofeld and save our trawlers. We are delighted with the funds that have been raised, and our thanks go to everyone that donated such generous items. Thanks also to our partners Sunseeker Torquay and to all the sponsors and supporters who have made the 2012 Sea Picnic such a success”.

Tom Wills, Sales Director, Sunseeker Torquay commented, “We have been delighted to be involved in this year’s Trinity Sailing Sea Picnic and really happy to support such a great cause. We have entertained 45 clients this afternoon and met many supporters of the charity. The auction was a great success with the Sunseeker Factory Tour prize being a great draw in raising further funds along with a brilliant Monaco inspired drawing of Torquay marina by Paul Barclay. It has been a great event in which partners from around the West Country have been pleased to be involved.”

Sponsors of the 2012 Sea Picnic included:

Mr Philip gibbs, Mr Mark Yallop, vondeling Wines (South Africa), Pussers Rum and Sunseeker Torquay.
