Last Step to London: First step to Rio
Professor Frank Dick OBE
What we did in
London was a
consequence of all that we have done
from the flame dying in Beijing to the flame
dying in London.
The Games don’t finish
with the dying of the
flame; they finish when you have learned all
you can from the experience and turned it
into effective action in pursuit of delivering
excellence when the flame is lit again.
Probably the only sustainable
competitive advantage you have is
the ability to learn faster than the
opposition.
Arie de Geus
Essential Debrief Matters!
Prepare to learn (Strategy)
Be prepared to learn (Attitude)
Independent? – Mindset diversity
Results – intended v actual
Performance under pressure – Athletes, teams
Professional competence of staff (coaches, performance support, management, etc)
Effectiveness of preparation planning
Effectiveness of 4-year, Olympic year, applied Game Plan
Leverage of high performance intelligence
Quality of chief coach and other leadership in decision making

Soft edge of coaching = Performance Improvement
Hard edge of coaching = Delivering best “on the day”
Coach education programs may be failing re hard edge.
If it’s only about
taking part,
why do they count the medals?
