MICEControlled Access
training
C.MacwatersSeptember 2015
Pre-requisitesPersonnel can only be allowed to carry out a controlled access if…
• They have already received CDM training• They have been trained in procedures for working in the MICE Hall
magnetic field environment • They have been trained in the controlled access procedure which is
governed by the Controlled Access with SC Magnet Permit Active checklist (if the SC permit is active)
• THREE people are required to carry out a controlled access:TWO workers or more who will make the access and be present in the hall. Both must have been trained in the Controlled Access procedure.ONE Door Operator to manage the access and keep a log of entries and exits.
OverviewThis training will qualify the recipient to enter the Hall in a Controlled Entry (CE) state, and to act as the CE Door Operator
PPS system principles – • Hazards managed by the PPS:
– Ionizing radiation (from beam dump)– RF (not yet!)
• Hazards NOT managed by the PPS:– Stray magnetic field (PRY)– Oxygen depletion (ODH)– Neutron monitor– LH2 beacon
PPS componentsDoor sensorsLogic crates
Door contacts & Magnetic hold

PPS Indicators
• Use of walkie talkies• Take CE logbook under evacuation
Blue lights Door signs

Outstanding practical training…
• Go through procedure from "Hall Ready" status to "Controlled Entry" status (PK00 run key and Doors and BOBs reset key)
• Perform Controlled Entry
• Act as Door Operator writing in the CE register
• Demonstrate SC permit beacon by dropping CE door bypass
• Explain need to reinstate the Hall Search or Cancel the SC permit if access is required
• Cancelling the PPS search down to "Free Access" using the "Start search" key in the main SCP
