backhaulnetworkstohandlethisexplodingIPdata
traffic,andthemostefficient,cost-effectivewaytodo
thatistotransitionfromTDMtopacketIP/Ethernet,
whichisdrivingthemobilebackhaulequipmentmar-
ket,reportsInfonetics.Itaddsthatmobilebackhaul
equipmentinvestmentsjumpedahealthy19%in
2008to$4.6billionworldwide,andrevenueissettoexplodeoverthenext5yearsandbeyond.

cellsiteshaveafewT1/E1linesforcellularbackhaul
thatwillneedtobeoverhauledforLTEdeployments.
Andincreasingly,theconvergedfixed/mobilebroad-
bandservicemixofferedbyserviceprovidersalso
competinginresidentialandbusinessfixedbroad-bandarecomingintoplayandcanequallybeinte-
gratedintoonesimplifiedCarrierEthernetTransport
backhaulsolution.
TheNokiaSiemensNetworksapproach:optimizingbackhaulisnotonesizefitsall
