So What’s Next
• Smartphones
– Five Operating Systems for this space
• RIM (Blackberry)
• Apple
• Windows (WM7)• Palm
• Android
– Apple, RIM, and Palm are very closely tied to
the phone hardware – WM and Android are completely independent
![Page 7: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

What will the future hold?
• Customer Devices will move into two
categories – Converged Devices that will continue to try
and do all things (and maybe even voice!)
– Specialized devices that take advantage ofthe IP Nature of the 4G networks to allow newfunctionality and ease of use
![Page 9: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)

Converged Devices
• Example – HTC Incredible
– 3.7 In WVGA AMOLED Display
– 1 GHz Snapdragon Processor
– 8 Megapixel Camera
– Optical Mouse – Android 2.1
– Multi-Band Capability
• IPhone 4G coming this summer?
![Page 10: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

Specialized Devices
• These devices really come in two versions
– Devices designed from the ground up toperform unique functions based upon amobile wireless technology
• iPAD• Netbooks
– Existing Devices – Adding a 4G chipset addsnew functionality
• Security Cameras• ATM Machines
• Remote Monitoring Capabilities
![Page 11: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

Mobile Wireless11
Broadband Access Devices
• These are designed to be highly mobile
and support high data rates – One Russian WiMAX operator reported in
March that handsets averaged about
1Gb/month while Notebooks average15Gb/Month
– These devices will support 4G and 3Gtechnologies for additional roaming capability
– These Devices may be subsidized from thecarrier or sold directly from the vendor (i.e.Dell)
• AirCards also fall into this category
![Page 12: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

Mobile Wireless12
Existing Devices with wireless capability
• Cannon and Nikon have both positioned
themselves to be able to add 4Gcapabilities directly to their cameras
• Local Services may become an additional
source of revenue and stickiness – Deer Camera
– Security Camera
– Security Monitoring Services
![Page 13: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)

What does the future hold?
• Roaming will be an absolutely critical
part of any future deployments – Not necessarily for revenue, but
for the customer experience
• The slow movement towards unlockeddevices and more available units willcontinue
• Devices will continue to be multi-band and
multi-mode capable• Voice will continue to be a less important
service across the wireless network
![Page 14: Mobile Wireless Evolution](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022021323/577cc7de1a28aba711a1d7b5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)

Mobile Wireless14
What does the future hold?
• Continued pricing pressure to offer lower
and lower rates while usage continues toescalate
– Companies must continue to position
themselves for an ultra completiveenvironment
• Smaller Companies can leverage their
local advantage and compete against ATTand Verizon in this new world, but theymust be aggressive and decisive in theiractions
