Monday ASSURE Method
!A.
Analyze Learners
My students are a 3rd grade class of 8-9 year olds. There are 20 children, 11 of which are boys
and 9 of which are girls. 80% of my students are White, and 20% of my students are African
American. My students all live in an Appalachian area.
S.
State Objective:
My students will recognize a fable as compared to other types of literature. They will do this by,
watching a video-story of a fable on the SmartBoard, viewing and discussing a poster about fa-
bles that will be posted in my blog, and creating a comparative graphic organizer that I found on
Pinterest. My students will accomplish this by the end of Monday with 100% accuracy.
!S.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials:
The methods that I have chosen, all link back to my students age, and ability level. My 3rd grade
students have grown up using technology, and I know that this is the way to grab their interest.
Therefor, I have chosen many different types of technology to interest my students.
!The media that I will be using for this lesson, will be a video-story from my Wiki page, a fables
poster from my blog, and a pinterest-found graphic organizer.
The materials that I will need to teach this lesson, will be my Smart board, my computer, and a
large piece of graphic organizer paper.
!U.
Utilize Media and Materials:
Due to the fact that my media is mostly revolving aroung my computer, there are a number pos-
sibilities that would effect to my plan. In case of not being able to access the poster or not being
able to use my computer in general, I will have a printed version of the poster for my students to
view and discuss.
Before my lesson, I will preview the materials, by making sure that my computer and Smart-
Board are up and running. I will prepare the materials, by preparing all of my links. I will pre-
pare the environment, by making sure that there arena distractions on the screen, or throughout
my classroom. I will prepare the learners by introducing Fables through the fable video story,
and I will provide a learning experience by making sure that my students are constantly interest-
ed and keeping my lesson fun.
R.
Require Learner Participation:
In order to require learner participation, I have incorporated discussions throughout my assign-
ment, to keep them thinking and participating.
E.
Evaluate and Revise:
To evaluate if my students are able to recognize a fable as compared to other types of literature,
I will have my students create their own comparative graphic organizer detailing fables to any
different type of literature that they wish. They will incorporate the different aspects of a fable in
order to compare the two genres. !
