Online Classes for students of stage 8
Cambridge International at DPS Nacharam has taken great strides at innovative ways
of teaching and learning.
As the famous proverb goes, “Necessity is the mother of invention”, to stay true to the
proverb online live classes for English, Math and Science were conducted for Stage 8
students during the extended October holidays for the students’ attempting the
Cambridge Lower secondary checkpoint. The idea behind the classes was that the
precious time be utilized to teach the students so that they can take advantage of the
classes from any corner of the world.
The technical team at the school assisted for a smooth class where the students
interacted with the teachers during the class on video and chat. The world indeed has
become smaller as we at a click of a button can interact, and this particular feature of
technological advancement was applied to use technology smartly and gain maximum
benefit. The students in turn were excited and were able to learn from the online live
classes. The success of the class can be attributed to the fact that all the stage 8 students
participated in the class and parents were equally thrilled to experience the online
classes.
Grand Presentation
Grand Presentation in spirit wanted the child to be the master of his/her own learning,
with this view in mind, the students of CAIE (stage1 to 8) grandly presented their
knowledge. .The event was organized on 25 October,2019 at DPS Nacharam .All the
classes were decorated with the concepts learned in order to impress the audience .The
occasion showcased the innate talents of the students before the dignitaries and parents.

A discussion forum was initiated by Ms Indira on Thursday, 17th October and the
following points were shared
1) Writing should happen every day in a class for at least five minutes.
2) Practice of Journal writing should be mandatory for students.
3) Peer reading and Peer evaluation techniques suggested so that students feel free
to explore learning with their friends.
4) Use of Anchor charts in class to facilitate visual learning for learners.
5) DEAR (DROP EVERYTHING AND READ) should be followed every week in
all English classes.
Math Workshop – Data Handling
Data handling plays an important role within mathematics education since it
encompasses real-world situations and assists in developing critical thinking skills in
learners. A workshop on data handling was conducted by the Math department as the
curriculum of CAIE deals with integration of subjects. The workshop gave a clarity to
the teachers in dealing with data handling problems. It was really a great knowledge
transfer session as the resource person Ms. Aparna gave a great insight on the topic.
Thus the month of October with eight working days was useful as the students took
part in the ‘Grand Presentation’ and the Halloween Assembly to mark the milestones
of the year. The first time online classes conducted for class 8 (CAIE) during the
extended holidays also served the students to help utilise their time fruitfully. In all, the
students benefitted with an array of activities showcased at the ‘Grand Presentation’
and other class activities.
