Cambridge School, New Friends Colony

Monthly Report September 2019

September is the month for the half-yearly unit tests for all classes from 1 to V.

A. Events Within The School

Teacher’s Day was celebrated on 5th September with

a special assembly conducted by few of our teachers.

A special screening of the movie ‘Bolt’ was organized

for the whole school. As is done every year, after the

children dispersed half day i.e. 11.30 am, the teachers

went out for lunch.

Roald Dahl Day was celebrated on his birthday, September 13th, in our school. A short presentation was made by the children of class V, in which they spoke about his life and

his books. This was followed by two enthralling songs from the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate

Factory, sung by the children of Class V.

ि नाटक प्रसु्तत सकया। स ंदी िास त्य के इसत ाि पर िंसक्षप्त जानकारी दी गई। ास्य रि पर आधाररत कसिता ि लघु नासटका

"उलू्ल की अदालत" प्रसु्तत सकया गया।

B. Curriculum

Book of the month quizzes were held for classes IV and V. THE MAGIC FINGER and CHARLIE AND

THE GREAT GLASS ELEVATOR (both by Roald Dahl) were the chosen books. At the end of the

quiz, few students were given appreciation cards.

Rohini Ghadiok Foundation (RGF), a Delhi based organization, works with various schools and

runs a special programme called - BRIDGING THE GAP. This program address the children from

the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) admitted to the school under the right to education (RTE)

Act. A team of 10 teachers take remedial classes with our EWS students, twice a week, enhancing

the skills of these students so that they could come closer to their class average.

Author's Meet

An author’s meet was organized for the students of class 5. Ms. Vaijayanti S. Tonpe , author and editor

of various children’s books was invited to have an interactive session with our stduents.

The children enjoyed the story she read to them and interacted with her enthusiastically.

C. Community work

Goonj Donation

Community service in the form of ‘Friday Collection’

continued for this academic session as well. The

school encourages small contributions by students as

part of their giving back to the society. These are then

passed on to various NGO’s as donations in cash or

kind.

D. Administration

A meeting of the Security Sub Committee was scheduled in the third Saturday of the month. This

committee comprises of a few parents, teachers and students. The security committee meets every

quarter to check the existing systems as well as give new suggestions.

Goonj’s teachers’ meet

Goonj, an NGO associated with our school, had organized a teacher’s meet to apprise the audience

of the ongoing, as well as the future campaigns Goonj is involved in. Ms. Yasmin Asgar and Ms. Sunandita Ganguly attended the meeting from our school.

Mr. Rakesh Gupta of the Golden Hive Foundation, conducted an interesting workshop on “Know

the bee”, at Sunder Nursery. Forty teachers from our school attended it. It was an informative,

interesting and enjoyable workshop. At the end of the workshop, every teacher was presented with

a bar of bee wax and a small jar of foot cream.

F. Miscellaneous

Swachhta Awareness Campaign

‘Swacchta He Sewa’, a government awareness campaign, was conducted in our school on September

26. The campaign emphasized on various aspects like overall cleanliness, waste segregation, recycling,

the harmful effects of plastic and eliminating the use of single use plastic. Students, staff and

karamcharis, all took part in this campaign and also took the ‘Swacchta pledge’.

Pick My Trash

As is done every year, a week long e-waste drive was on in

our school for all students, staff and parents. Pick My Trash,

an organization run by Delhi's waste pickers and Chintan,

came to our school to collect the plastics, paper, cardboard,

bottles and e-waste that had been collected over a period of

one week.

Joy of Giving week

An empathy building session by the NGO Goonj, was conducted for classes 4 and 5. They spoke

about the Daan Utsav or the Joy of Giving week ( starting 2nd October to 8th October) and urged all

the students to take part in this campaign.
