PASTOR’S MESSAGE
From the Mouth of Lyons
Praise the Lord! The God who knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13) is
concerned about our whole being – body, soul, and mind. Our health concerns him as our
bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and we are the worker of his
kingdom. So, how is your health? More importantly, how is spiritual health? I find that my
whole being feels better when I am spiritually in tune with the Lord. As the Psalmist says,
“my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (84:2)
Last week, Jerry Amos trained the staff on the use of our church’s AED (Automated
External Defibrillator). If you are not familiar with an AED, it is a life-saving medical
device that will detect a potentially life-threatening condition as the result of a heart attack
and then shock a person’s heart back to an effective heartbeat. Our church is blessed to have
this piece of equipment along with talented and knowledgeable people like Jerry who can
train the rest of lay people on how to use this life-saving tool.
As we were being instructed in the proper use of the AED, the Holy Spirit was leading
my imagination to think about how our hearts need to be spiritually shocked from near dead
quivering to thriving, effective life. Too often we find ourselves going through the religious
requirements that lead to “blah” Christianity, a spiritual condition on the verge of life-
threatening. But then, something – an event, a word, an experience – shocks our heart to
revival. The passion is ignited and we feel alive in Christ.
I experience rejuvenation from the spiritual blahs when I retreat into God’s natural world
to marvel at its beauty, power, and creativity like I did last week while hiking at Hanging
Rock State Pack. I am also energized when I witness the spiritual light bulbs turn on as a
result of God working through my spiritual gifts of teaching and discipling. There are many
other moments, large and small, that shock my heart to life again in God. From time to time,
I need the Holy Spirit to shock me out of my life-threatening spiritual dysfunctional
patterns.
What are the events, words, and/or experiences that shock the passion back into your
spiritual life? I invite you to give attention to that spiritual need. You will feel so much more
alive in Christ. God’s kingdom and church need you to have a thriving heartbeat for Christ
and his people.
Feeling the heartbeat,
Pastor Dan
P.S. ~ I promise I was paying attention to my AED instruction and will be prepared to use
my training, if so called upon. However, I believe the risk of spiritual cardiac arrests is
much greater among us.

volunteers each day. We currently have 9 or
less signed up which means there is room for 15 more volunteers each day.
