The TRADER, newest of the Har-rison Line w~ssels, commissioned to oper-ate in the Caribhean and Gulf trades, will call at Gulf Ports in early Novem-ber on her maiden voyage.
The twin-engine, completely air-con-ditioned vessel combines a cubic of 385,-000 bales and a deadweight of 7,800tons. Designed to carry an enormous va-riety of specialized merchandise, includ-ing heavy lifts, cargo requiring refrig-eration and mechanical w,ntilation, tileTRADER is also designed to meet thequick turnaround required by shippersand consignees, thus relieving capitaltie-up.
In addition to a 70-ton Stulcken der-rick situated belween Hatches 2 and 3where tile majority of awkward hulky, and heavv cargo uill be carried, theTRADER is fitted extensiwqy uithcranes serxing square, uninterruptedhatches through wide hatch openings.rl’he utilizalinn of cranes, versus der-ricks, allows faster loading/dischargingoperations in many wavs. hut the abilityof cranes to spot loads into final stowageposition reduces handling.
A sistership, LINGUIST. is scheduledto commence her maiden xoyage in lateNovember.
