Navigating the Benchmark Website
Objectives:❏ To explore the resources available on the
Benchmark website,❏ To navigate to leveled texts appropriate
for your child,❏ To locate resources to reinforce
foundational skills, and❏ To have more information to talk to your
child(ren) about their reading and writing curriculum.

Here we will explore:❏ Books assigned to your student (if applicable),
❏ Consumable books students use for close reading,❏ ePocket Charts,
❏ Decodable Texts, and❏ Reader’s Theater.
Books Assigned to Your Student:❏ Assigned books may be on the right.
❏ OR choose: Benchmark Advance c2018, desired grade level, and the unit.
❏ Your child should be able to point out the texts they have already worked with in class.
Consumable Books
❏ One for each unit in grades 2-5,❏ One for every two units in K-1,
❏ Used for close reading: highlighting and annotating text, and
❏ Sent home at the end of each unit with an optional take-home activity calendar.

ePocket Chart❏ A fun way for students to play around with sounds,
words, and sentences while they learn.❏ Grade 1 has many ePocket Charts prepared by
spelling pattern.
Decodable Texts
❏ Focus is on blending sounds to read unknown words.
❏ Teaches and reinforces phonics skills.
Reader’s Theater
❏ Speaking parts are at varying reading levels within one text.
❏ Builds fluency and confidence.
