on-stop laughter takescenter stage as we’re intro-duced to Willum Cubbert,an aspiring young architectin Terre Haute, Indiana.Willum has it all - a promisingcareer, devoted friends, even, maybe, a serious girl-friend. He is delighted whenRick Steadman, an anony-mous ex-GI who saved hislife shows up at his birthdayparty. However, Willum’sdelight soon fades as itbecomes apparent that Rickis a hopeless, annoying“nerd” who has no intentionof leaving. A bumbling oafwith no social sense, littleintelligence and less tact,Rick stays on and on. Hisprolonged and increasinglyannoying presence leadsto one uproarious incidentafter another, until Willumis forced to out-nerdthe champ.
The Nerd is directed byArt Nemitz, and features asupremely talented cast andcrew. Terese Banner (CleliaWaldgrave) will be remem-bered for her performancesin A Christmas Story,Joseph… and Tony and

We are very pleasedthat Broadway favoriteJerry Dixon will be returningto the Civic to direct our upcoming productionof Crowns. Jerry will beremembered by Civic audiences for his show stopping rendition of Old Man River , which he performed as part ofour Gala Reunion Concert .
Jerry made his Broadway debut in 1990 in the hit musical Once On This Island. He was then cast in theBroadway production of Five Guys Named Moe. Producedby Cameron Mackintosh, this high-octane extravaganzawas a celebration of the music of Louis Jordan.
Equally comfortable in the more intimate environmentsfound Off-Broadway as he is on the Great White Way, Jerryhas appeared in Bright Lights, Big City and Taking a Chanceon Love: The Lyrics and Life of John Latouche. He was alsofeatured in Thunder Knocking On the Door for Yale Rep.
In 2002 Mr. Dixon garnered a Drama DeskNomination for his work in the Off-Broadway production ofJonathan Larson’s tick, tick, BOOM!. Also in 2002, Jerry performed in a benefit concert performance of Once OnThis Island, the funds from which were donated toBroadway Cares and The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.
In addition to being an accomplished performer,Jerry has also become a much sought-after director. Mostrecently he staged a very successful production of tick, tick,BOOM! in Singapore. Mr. Dixon’s directorial credits includePractical Magic for the Actor’s Studio Theatre and The BodyElectric at Bucks County Playhouse.

It matters not how songs in musical theatre are created. Whether it be music first, thenlyrics – or libretto that is created, then set to music – actors should deal with the textfirst. Jerry’s lyric interpretation session addresses not only what meaning the actor canextract from the author’s words, but how to put that meaning into action. On your feet,on-the-spot learning will let you come away with valuable techniques on how tobecome the author’s greatest tool. Participants must prepare one musical theatre song and be prepared to present itfor critique.
Musical Theatre Scene ExplorationWhen: Saturday, January 20th, 11:00am to 1:00pmPrerequisite: Actors aged 16 through adultWhere: The Carver Center StudioFee: $25Registration: Advanced registration is required. Limited to 20 participants.
In the past, there was a great chasm between the skill and quality of actors in a“straight” play, versus those in a musical play. Happily for those of us who are not justwaiting for the next musical number, that gap has all but disappeared. Writers are cre-ating characters with more depth and complexity. Contemporary issues being dealt within the modern musical are calling for nuances and edge like never before. Even therevivals of the classics are constantly reshaped to provide opportunity for today’s musi-cal theatre actor to reach artistic heights – dramatic, comic, tragic and everything inbetween. Jerry will help you break down musical theatre scenes in exactly the samefashion as any work by Mamet or Shakespeare.
INSIDE THE CARVER CENTER STUDIOWhen: Saturday, January 27th, 2:00pmWhere: The Carver Center StudioFee: $5You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity to spend an informal afternoon with Jerryas he is interviewed by Artistic Director Morrie Enders. hat do you get when you take the classic thriller The Bad Seed, add a touch of Gypsy, a dashof All about Eve and throw them all into a blender? One of the funniest musical spoofs everwritten, that’s what. Sweet little Tina Denmark was born to entertain. And when you’re bornwith talent in your blood, stardom is your destiny. So, it’s no wonder that this darlinglittle tot would kill to play Pippi Longstocking in her school play, Pippi in Tahiti. With a cast ofrecognizable characters and a laugh-out-loud musical score, Ruthless! is an over-the-top,hilariously skewed look at what it takes to make it big in showbiz. Annie it ain’t!
Directed by Morrie Enders, with Musical Direction by Aaron J. Cassette, and Choreography byKathryn S. Williams, the talented cast features Janine Black, Roger W. Burleigh, Kristin A. Fiore,CeCeWeeks, Emily F. Chateau and appearing for the first time on a Civic stage Audrey Whitby.
