The North Shore “Pink Zone”
From Downtown (west ofSmithfield or north ofLiberty), head out of townthrough the Ft. Pitt Tunnel(I-376 West), take Exit 69A, andstay to the left to loop back ontoI-376 East. Before the tunnel, takeExit 69B for PA 51 South (thisloop also works coming from 51to go through Ft. Pitt Tunnel intotown). Follow signs for “Downtown”to go through the Liberty Tunneland across the Bridge to connectwith I-579 and Bigelow Blvd.
From 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. onMarathon Sunday, the area shadedin pink will be completely closedoff to traffic. If you are going to bein that area and may need to leaveduring that time, consider parkingyour car outside the area.
To get to the Smithfield St. Bridge:- From Parkway East - Exit 71A/Grant St, left from exit ramp onto Ft. Pitt Blvd.- From I-279/Ft. Duquesne Bridge - aim for I-376 East/Monroeville, stay leftand follow signs for “Downtown,” at Wood St take left ramp up to Bridge.- From Parkway West - stay on I-376 East to Exit 71A/Grant St. First right onto1st Ave. Safely turn around on 1st to go back to Grant St. Make a left andthen bear right onto Ft Pitt Blvd.
The Port Authority’s “T” systemis free within Downtown andthe North Shore, so it couldmake a handy alternative totrying to drive around the roadclosures in those areas.
Due to one-way patterns, the area around OxfordCentre (shaded in blue)will be impossible to exitfrom 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
From 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. on MarathonSunday, the area bounded by AndersonSt/Cedar Ave, the Allegheny River,Sandusky St, E Commons, and E Ohio Stwill be completely closed off to traffic.
