Thanks: to all staff, caretakers and parents who have contributed to this production in any way. Your efforts are much appreciated.
A note from theDrama DepartmentEvery production throws up its own challenges in terms of performance skill from
a point of view of inhibiting a role. ‘Grease’ is no exception from this. First of all,
the dialogue has to be fast, flowing, snappy and witty without being incomprehensible to a live audience. Cues have to be ‘bitten’ and
anticipated by the young actors. In addition entrances and exits have to be timed precisely and stage blocking with a large cast has to allow
everybody to be seen. Secondly, the connection between dialogue and music has to be smooth and effortless and should be glided in and
out in a seamless theatrical weave.
Finally, there is always the shadow of the iconic film of ‘Grease’ hanging over any new production. As a director of the drama side of this
production I feel that the cast have handled these challenges very well and have brought a 21st century form of energy into the 1970s script.
The experience has been enjoyable and informative. I hope you, the audience, enjoy the whole production and appreciate the efforts of all
who have been involved in it in one capacity or another.

A note from the Music DepartmentWe are in the middle of a really exciting year, one that is full of development and
surprises. The year started with a fantastic two-night performance of the
panto ‘Aladdin’ followed straight afterwards by the traditional SJP
Christmas Carol Service. As soon as both of these ended we were
straight into rehearsals for tonight’s performance of ‘Grease’.
The year will culminate with a musical evening and a
performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I hope
to see you at some of these events.

SANDY – Jodie Kinsella‘Grease’ has been a really amazing
experience for me. This is my first major
role in a production like this and I’ve
learnt so much from it. It’s been hard
work but it’s so worth it!
RIZZO 1 – Leanne Petley‘Grease’ rehearsals are always fun, fast and
challenging. They give me a distraction if
I’m feeling down and I leave with a buzz
each time. They’ve given me a focus and a
goal to reach and I love every second of
it, even when rehearsals may be tough.
I would advise anyone to participate in a
production like this; you will gain
confidence and make lots of new and interesting friends.
RIZZO 2 – Abbie Randles‘Grease’ has been so much fun and hard
work and everyone has worked so well
together. The cast are fab! It’s been great
being part of such a famous musical and I
feel privileged. Thank you to everyone
who was involved – it’s gonna rock!
FRENCHIE – Yasmine Coumbe‘Grease’ has been an amazing experience,
it has been a lot of hard work but I have
enjoyed every moment of it. I have met a
lot of new friends and I look forward to
being in a lot more productions.
DANNY – Danny CurtisBecause ‘Grease’ is a musical it is out of my
comfort zone as it involves singing and
dancing. Hopefully I have pulled it off. It has
been good working with all of my friends
and meeting new people. I hope you enjoy it.
PUTZIE – Kyle FraserI have really enjoyed being in ‘Grease’. It’s
my first production with Miss Stott and it
has been a pleasure to have worked with
her. Thank you to all the cast. I have loved
working with you also.
KENICKIE – Eric NixonWhen I auditioned for ‘Grease’ I really
wanted to get the part of Danny, as did
everybody but Kenickie has been a really
good part to play. All of the rehearsals have
been tough and balancing school work with
rehearsals has been really hard, but it has
been worth it. I hope you enjoy the show.
DOODY – John McCreadieAs a child I always wanted to be in
‘Grease’. Now I have the chance, it has
been hard but a lot of fun.
SONNY – Danny TurnbullI have really enjoyed working with the
cast in ‘Grease’ and we have
worked so hard it should be
the best thing ever! Enjoy
the show.

BOWS AND EXIT MUSIC
St John Plessington Presents
REHEARSALSRehearsals started as soon as the stage was stripped from
‘Aladdin’. As it was a big production with a large cast it took
some co-ordinating but as you can see from our rehearsals
fun was had by all.
DIRECTOR’S NOTESThis is the third major production that the creative team from St John Plessington has produced and every time the standard of rehearsals
and effort from the pupils has surpassed anything we could imagine of them. This production truly has stretched every one of our team
and our performers; it is no mean feat to sing, dance and act all at the same time.
What you see before you tonight is a culmination of a lot of ‘blood, sweat and tears’ and it could not have been possible without all the
help and support from everyone involved. I would like to personally thank every one that has made tonight happen. We have a strong
performing talent here that keeps on growing and growing, I can only imagine where we will be in 5 or 10 years time if it continues like it is.
Grease’ itself has provided a lot of new and exciting challenges for us; how to sing and dance at the same time, how to develop a character,
how to sing with a live band rather than a backing track. For a large number of the cast this is the first production that they have been
involved in and they have had to come to terms with a lot of dramatic and musical techniques very quickly. I feel that every one of the
performers has achieved a phenomenal amount and I am proud of each one of them. They have adapted to many different rehearsal
situations, coping with whatever came their way in a mature manner, and their commitment to these rehearsals needs commending. I hope
that you enjoy tonight’s performance of Grease’ as much as we have enjoyed producing it and I look forward to seeing you at future events
at St John Plessington.
