Hello Patriot Parents
Patriot Parents, we continue to push our KINDNESS campaign here on campus. Unfortunately, our supplier is not keeping up with the Orange Shirt demand and is taking much longer than expected to deliver the Orange Shirts. But, not having an Orange Shirt does not stop anybody from participating in the planned KINDNESS activities. We are working with the vendor to try and get those Orange Shirts in stock as quickly as possible, but please be patient—they are on their way. As all of you know, this past weekend we honored those we lost 20 years ago in New York, Washington DC, and Shanksville Pennsylvania. We also celebrated the heroism of our first responders who rushed into danger to help their fellow Americans, some making the ultimate sacrifice. Listening to the speeches on Saturday, September 11th, I was reminded of one of my favorite quotes from Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” Great words from a great man. I started thinking this weekend how we could bring this into our KINDNESS campaign. In the end I decided I wanted to add a couple of lines to Dr King’s quote: Bullying cannot drive out bullying, only KINDNESS can do that Teasing cannot drive out teasing, only KINDNESS can do that Ostracizing cannot drive out ostracizing, only KINDNESS can do that In the long run, KINDNESS is the solution to so many of the world’s problems. That is why this KINDNESS campaign is so important to us here on campus.

DRESS UP ACTIVITIES and ACTIVITIES SEPTEMBER 27—OCTOBER 1
Patriot Parents Please see below, we need parent volunteers and a
Parent Volunteer Coordinator
Parents and High School Siblings
Please see below. The district is in need of coaches for the Volunteer Sports Program. The demand was higher this year than it ever has been. We have more kids, meaning we need
more coaches. For students, if they volunteer to coach, they can count their coaching hours towards Community Service Hours and they will receive a Certificate thanking them for their
service. Plus, it looks good on a college resume.
EAST SIDE PARKING LOT
PreK and Kinder Parents Your children will be released first. Please be here by 2:35 PM to pick up your PreK and Kinder child. Smooth running of the pick up lanes can only happen if you are here on time and arrive before the
2nd and 3rd grade parents.
2nd and 3rd Grade Parents Your children will be released next, at 2:45 PM. Please do not come early!!! If you come early then we cannot release the PreK and Kinder students in a timely and orderly fashion because your vehicles are blocking the PreK and Kinder pick up areas. Please
allow us this 10 minute time frame to safely release our youngest scholars.
Please help us help you and at the same time ensure a safe
and orderly dismissal.

PAINT BENITO ORANGE KINDNESS INITIATIVE
Patriot Parents,
Our big S.E.L. (Social and Emotional Learning) initiative this year is KINDNESS. We will be holding
special events throughout the year on Wednesdays (KINDNESS Wednesdays). We are asking that
everybody on campus joins us on KINDNESS WEDNESDAYS by wearing one of our orange
KINDNESS shirts. We would love to see orange, and the word KINDNESS, spread all over the
campus on every Wednesday. To help this dream come to fruition we are selling student orange
KINDNESS t-shirts for $10 apiece. If you would like for your child to participate in this event
(painting the school orange with KINDNESS—all students will participate in the KINDNESS events
regardless of whether they bought a shirt or not) then please fill out the order form below and
return it to Ms Leslie Sanchez at the front desk with either cash or a check (we do not have the
ability to take credit cards).
Please help us paint Benito Martinez Elementary School orange with KINDNESS each and every
Wednesday.
Thank you for your support in this initiative

From the Nurse Patriot families, Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We are excited to have your children back on campus. I hope you all had a restful summer. Here are a few reminders as we are about to embark on a fantastic and safe school year.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Please be sure your child has their immunizations up to date according to state requirements. You can email updated immunization records to me at [email protected]. Click on the appropriate link to see the 21-22 Texas Minimum State Vaccine requirements: PK-3 & PK-4 https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/pdf/6-15-2021-2022-Minimum-Requirement-Child-Care-PreK.pdf K-12 https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/pdf/6-14-2021-2022-Minimum-Requirement-K-12.pdf
MEDICAL CONDITIONS/MEDICATION
If your child has a medical condition and requires medication during school hours or has special dietary needs or allergies, please return the correct forms to the nurse's office. Please know that forms need to be updated yearly, in order to provide the best care possible for your child. Here is the link to obtain the appropriate documents that must be completed by your child’s physician and parent or guardian: https://www.sisd.net/Page/47644.
EXTRA CLOTHES
Pre-K and Kindergarten parents, it might be a good idea to have an extra pair of underwear and bottoms in your child’s backpack in case of bathroom accident.
TELEHEALTH
SISD has partnered with Goodside Health, a school-based telehealth program that provides students access to high-quality care. Once registered, students can be virtually treated at school under the care of a licensed pediatrician. Students can be evaluated, diagnosed, and treated in the nurse's office at school! Some of the services provided are Strep, Covid-19, and Influenza testing. Most visits are little to no cost. Tricare plans, Texas children's Medicaid plans, and commercial insurance plans are accepted. A self-pay option is also available. Once registered, parent or guardian will always be notified and asked for consent before a visit. Register here: https://goodsidehealth.com/register/
Having effective communication is important to me and it will help to ensure that your child and our community stays healthy and safe. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me by phone at 915-937-8007 or email me at [email protected]. You can also look on the school website under Nurse’s Office https://www.sisd.net/Domain/10872 for more information.
I’m excited to see you all! Nurse Salais
