Happy Feast of Corpus Christi! What a wonderful and truly Catholic Feast day! The Eucharist is one of the defining characteristics and benchmarks of Christ’s Church, for it is Christ’s Church that fulfills his Eucharistic command: “Do this in memory of me” (Lk 22:19). Every Sunday, we gather and fulfill this command of Christ like the first disciples did after Christ’s Ascension into Heaven. And ever since those first disciples, Christians have held the belief in the true and real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We see this for example in a letter that St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote to the Christians in Rome in 110 A.D. He states, “I desire the bread of God, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ, who was of the seed of David; and for drink I desire his blood, which is love incorruptible." He was speaking about the Eucharistic bread and wine that was consecrated and shared among the community every Sunday. Early Church historians believe that St. Ignatius was a disciple of St. John the Beloved disciple. Thus he is handing on the belief in Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist which he himself had received from the apostles!
Likewise, St. Justin Martyr in 151 A.D. states, “The food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by Christ… is both the flesh and the blood of that Incarnate Jesus” (First Apology 66). The Eucharist is not merely a symbolic representation of Christ’s sacrifice, but is “both the flesh and the blood” of Christ.
How blessed we are to be able to receive the Bread of Angels – the Most Holy Eucharist – every time we come to Mass! How blessed we are to be members of the Catholic Church, Christ’s Eucharistic community. As we celebrate this feast of Corpus Christi, let us give great thanks and praise to God for this wonderful gift.

¡Feliz Fiesta del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo!
¡Qué maravillosa y auténtica Fiesta Católica! La Euca-ristía es una de características que definen y marcan a la Iglesia de Cristo, es por esto que la Iglesia de Cristo cumple su mandamiento Eucarístico: “Hagan esto en memoria mía” (Lc. 22:19). Cada domingo, nos reuni-mos y cumplimos este mandamiento de Cristo como los primeros discípulos lo hicieron después de la As-censión de Jesús al Cielo.
Y desde esos primeros discípulos, los cristianos han creído en la verdadera y real presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía. Esto lo vemos por ejemplo en la carta que San Ignacio de Antioquía escribió a los cristianos en Roma en el año 110 d. C. Él dijo, “Deseo el pan de Dios, que es la carne de Jesucristo, quien fue del linaje de David; y de beber deseo su sangre, que es amor incorruptible.” Él estaba hablando del pan Eucarístico y el vino que fue consagrado y compartido entre la comunidad cada domingo. Los historiadores de la Igle-sia primitiva creen que San Ignacio fue un discípulo de San Juan el discípulo amado. Así él está transmitiendo la creencia de la ¡verdadera presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía que él ha recibido de los apóstoles!
De igual manera, el Mártir San Justino en 151 d. ¡Qué bendecidos somos de recibir el Pan de los Ángeles – la Santísima Eucaristía – cada vez que venimos a Misa! ¡Qué bendecidos somos de ser miembros de la Iglesia Católica, la comunidad Eucarís-tica de Cristo! Al celebrar esta fiesta del Cuerpo de Cristo, demos muchas gracias y alabemos a Dios por este maravilloso regalo.

Re-sponsibilities include meeting with couples, filing Diocesan paper-work, managing payments, as well as the processing of annul-ments. Liturgy & Hispanic Ministry Assistant position available St. Francis is looking for a full-time person who would assist with both Liturgy & Hispanic Ministry departments. Responsibilities include assistance with preparation and ceremonies of all liturgi-cal special sacraments and other annual events, scheduling of liturgical ministers, translations, inventory and purchasing of litur-gical supplies, and traditional administrative duties such as main-taining word documents, emails, payment processing, etc. Bilin-gual (English & Spanish), proficiency in Microsoft Office, and flexi-ble schedule around special events is required. Plans are underway for the 40th Annual Mexican Dinner and Cultural Day (AMDCD). This celebration will take place on Saturday, September 27th. Save the date! This is a major milestone and achievement for our church. With the large number expected to attend, we need help to develop and run this family event. Along with the won-derful food (with all proceeds still going to our parish) and cultural tents, we will also have a full day of entertainment, kid activities and some special surprises. We need your help to carry this out. Get on board. At this time, we are in immediate need for a volunteer chair and extra help on all committees (food, entertainment, video, marketing, facilities, and sponsor-ship). All are welcomed to participate. Can work with unique schedules. Man a cultural tent. Lots of fun and great way to meet many people. The tents and entertain-ment will be indoors while still planning on having the kid activities outside.
