A new take on the iconic TT sports car was
the highlight of the Audi stand at Paris
with a display that showcased innovative
design and impressive efficiency.
New TT Sportback concept
The intriguing TT Sportback concept
takes its inspiration from the A5 and A7
Sportback models, offering five doors,
four full-size seats and a 400PS version of
the new TT’s 2.0 TFSI engine.
Retaining the new TT’s distinctively
short front and rear overhangs, the
Sportback concept is 29cm longer, 6cm
wider and 3cm lower than the TT Coupé,
and has a 12cm longer wheelbase to
accommodate the extra doors and interior
seating capacity.
Inside, new materials trial an even
more premium look, with new soft-grade
leathers and Alcantara detailing giving a
contemporary and highly luxurious feel.
The revolutionary Audi virtual cockpit,
with its multi-mode 12.3˝ high resolution
display is carried over from the Coupé.
Under the bonnet, the 2.0 TFSI engine
rockets the Audi TT Sportback concept
from 0-62mph in 3.9secs yet is good for
up to 40.3mpg on the combined cycle and
CO2 emissions of 162g/km.
New A6 allroad and RS 6 Avant
Following in the wheeltracks of the new A6
Saloon and Avant, Paris also saw the debut
of the new A6 allroad and RS 6 models,
which adopt styling and equipment
upgrades in line with the new A6.
Both now come with sharper frontal
styling with new bumper designs front
and rear and smoother head and tailight
designs.
Available to order from late November,
the new RS 6 (pictured right) now
comes with Audi Matrix LED headlights
as standard, with prices starting from
£77,005 OTR.
New TT Sportback concept leads technical innovativion at Paris Show
Concept cars are always fascinating for us because they reveal ideas, innovation and advanced technology that point to future Audi design trends.
One look at the new TT Sportback concept sets the mind thinking, as it points to the possibility that the new TT Coupé’s outstanding dynamic athleticism could be translated into five-door practicality without sacrificing looks and style.
The TT Sportback concept accompanied the new A6 Saloon and Avant, A6 allroad and RS 6 Avant at the Show, each underlining our commitment to efficiency, performance and refinement.
With CO2 emissions now as low as 109g/km in the A6 2.0 TDI ultra SE Saloon, it’s possible to enjoy executive luxury and style with Benefit-in-Kind tax more in line with the class below.
This issue of Progress also highlights the many benefits of quattro all-wheel-drive for fleet operators, and we talk to key members of our sales team about how Audi Fleet is evolving.
And if you ever wondered what the Audi Driving Experience was like at first hand, just turn to page 16.

Milton Keynes Audi the latest Centre to adopt Audi-Terminal architecture
Conveniently situated in Northfield Drive, just
down the road from Audi UK Headquarters, Milton
Keynes Audi is the newest Centre to adopt Audi's
impressive ‘Terminal-style’ building design.
At 38,000 square feet, the new Centre houses
a 17-car showroom and a dedicated customer
handover area as well as a drive-through indoor
service check-in, workshop facilities with 18
bays and an MOT area. There are also 277 parking
spaces for visitor parking and a wide range of Audi
Approved Used cars.
Offering the most comprehensive Audi
customer service ever to fleet customers in the
Milton Keynes region, the new Centre will be
instrumental in providing upgraded support for
businesses of all sizes. The new drive-through
check-in and expanded service facilities in
particular will offer valuable time savings for
busy fleet customers as waiting times will be
reduced and throughput increased.
Justin Mayes, Local Business Development
manager at Milton Keynes Audi, said: “This is a
huge improvement over the old site, and enables
Government funding extended for ULEVs
A6 ultra and new A3 Cabriolet take top honours in Auto Express Awards
“It’s a return to the top spot for the Audi A6
thanks to the brilliant new ultra model. It
combines the all-important low CO2 and high
mpg figures business users crave, along with the
quality, comfort and kit they want.”
So said Steve Fowler, Editor-in-Chief of Auto
Express, at the magazine’s 2014 awards, citing
the A6 Saloon 2.0 TDI ultra SE its ‘Best Executive
Car 2014’.
“Audi has managed to produce all that in a car
that’s brilliant to drive, too,” he continued.
The top accolade comes just as the A6 Saloon
(pictured right) and Avant receive a range-wide
series of upgrades and improvements.
Sleeker styling, even better fuel economy,
lower CO2 emissions and enhanced equipment
levels mark out the latest models – turn to page 6
for further details.
New A3 Cabriolet named Best Convertible
Meanwhile, the all-new A3 Cabriolet 1.4 TFSI
Sport has been crowned ‘Best Convertible’.
“We Brits love our convertibles and they
don’t come any better than the Audi A3 Cabriolet.
It looks tremendous – so important in this market
– with all the quality we’ve come to expect from
Audi. And although it does without a roof, it’s as
brilliant to drive as any other A3 in the range,”
said Auto Express.
The A3 Cabriolet’s fast-retracting powered
hood opens fully in a little under 18 seconds at
speeds of up to 31mph. The 1.4-litre TFSI engine
with Cylinder-on-Demand technology emits just
114g/km of CO2, yet offers 150PS and 0-62mph
acceleration in just 8.9 seconds.
Government funding for plug-in hybrid cars
has been extended to help with take-up of zero
and ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) such
as the new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron.
The grant allows up to £5,000 off the
cost of qualifying cars, with a CO2 emissions
threshold currently set at a 75g/km maximum.
Electric vehicles must have a range of at
least 70 miles to qualify for the incentive,
while plug-in hybrids must be able to travel at
least 10 miles on electric power only.
The A3 Sportback e-tron comfortably
exceeds both stipulations with an electric-only
range of over 30 miles and a total range of
more than 580 miles.
The initial £300million in funding was
scheduled to end in May 2015, but now a
further £500 million means the grant will be
extended at least until 2017, or until 50,000
plug-in vehicles have been registered.
As of 30 June 2014, 11,260 claims had
been made.
No paper licence from January 2015 //
From January 2015 the driving licence paper counterpart is abolished.
But while drivers can input their licence number, National Insurance number and postcode into www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk to view their penalties and disqualifications and eligibility to drive, DVLA says there are no agreed timescales for extension of the service to fleets.
Checking company car drivers’ licences at least annually has long been seen as key to reducing an organisation’s exposure to risk.
Abolition of the counterpart means it will be harder for fleet operators to carry out their checks, though many companies offer on-line employee licence and driving record checks, and these services are expected to become increasingly popular.
Tax discs abolished //
Vehicles in the UK no longer need to display a paper tax disc in the windscreen from 1 October 2014.
While all vehicles are still liable for Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) to be driven or registered on the road, the system will become entirely electronic.
The move is expected to save some £10million a year in fleet and leasing company administration, and £7million in the DVLA’s printing costs.
The DVLA and the police will check compliance using the vehicle database. Most on-road enforcement now uses Automatic Number Plate Readers (ANPR) which show that more than 99% of motorists tax their vehicles on time.
DVLA reminders will still be sent out a few weeks before the VED is due to expire, and refunds will be paid automatically, triggered by the DVLA being notified that a vehicle has been sold.
us to extend a truly professional service to our
business customers. Already, the extra space has
given us scope to spread out and expand the Audi
proposition locally.”
Jason Cranswick, head of customer quality
and network development at Audi UK, added:
“We are delighted that Milton Keynes Audi has
developed into this new state of the art Centre.
“It’s another significant boost for our
intention to offer our customers the kind of
exceptional brand and product experience we
always strive for in our Centres.”

South West Area Fleet Manager Charlie Rowney (pictured left) and Tosh Crompton, Key Account Manager (North), are part of the nationwide team that’s shaping Audi Fleet’s all-encompassing fleet support structure
Audi’s broadest and most efficient model range ever is dovetailing
neatly with growing industry demand for reduced operating costs
and lower CO2 emissions.
It’s a combination that needs effective fleet customer support,
the reason why focusing on customer needs and
building Audi Fleet’s profile and professionalism is a top
priority for the brand in 2015.
An all-encompassing fleet structure
At Audi Fleet, two Key Account Managers (KAM) look after North
and South, with six regionally based Area Fleet Managers providing
nationwide coverage. Working together, the team expects to have
over 1,000 fleet agreements in place by year-end.
Tosh Crompton (pictured right) is Audi Fleet’s Key Account
Manager (North) looking after larger fleets in the region.
By definition, it’s a role that includes strengthening Audi
Fleet’s presence in the leasing industry. Working closely with the
contract hire and leasing team, it involves building and maintaining
relationships as contract hire continues to grow as the dominant
fleet funding method.
“We want to develop a more personal, bespoke service for our

The interview: building Audi Fleet for a stronger future
fleet customers,” says Tosh, “one that we are confident will enable a
greater understanding of their requirements.”
That’s a commitment that offers professional support for every
fleet operator. As one of the six Area Fleet Managers, Charlie Rowney
(pictured below) ensures fleet operators in the South West region
receive premium account management.
“The AFM’s role involves working with fleet functions in the Audi
Centre network, helping to build relations with smaller fleets where
perhaps previously we have had little or no contact,” says Charlie.

“With the Audi Business Centre now fully operational, providing
diary management for the KAMS and AFMs, as well as the new
Business Sales Development Managers who work closely with the
Local Business Development Managers in the Audi Centre network,
it allows us as a field team to maximise our time with customers.”
“We strive to increase Audi’s fleet presence in the UK, both
organically with new opportunities in our existing customer base
and also through developing new relationships.
“Equally, we are keen to promote the benefits, particularly to
smaller fleets, of a single or dual-badge agreement where we can
offer a highly attractive solution to satisfy all company car drivers.”
Success built on premium products and service
Audi UK is on target to achieve over 150,000 UK sales overall
in 2014, with an expected 50% in the fleet sector.
That’s significant growth which confirms Audi’s position
as the leading premium car brand in the UK.
Says Tosh: “Our success is built on our products – the cars
we make and sell. We’re fortunate in having technology that
allows us to make the most of industry demands and trends
by offering outstanding efficiency.
“The new A3 Sportback e-tron is a prime example as it
marks the start of a new era where tomorrow’s technology
today offers an ultra-low emissions and fuel consumption.
“Together with the launch of our new TDI ultra models in
the A4, A5, A6 and A7 ranges, it means we can offer
CO2 emissions among the lowest in class, with
strong residual values and low running costs.
“That means reduced fuel costs and
lower BIK tax liabilities without loss in
performance or pride of ownership – a real
consideration for many fleets where
prestige plays an important part in
their own brand image.”

The new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid
is now on sale, offering everyday usability with
outstanding performance.
Combining a 1.4 TFSI 150PS engine with a
75Kw electric motor, peak power of 204PS enables
0-62mph in 7.6secs and a 137mph top speed, plus
a range of over 30 miles in pure electric mode. Yet
fuel consumption of up to 176.6mpg1 and CO2
emissions as low as 37g/km1 (NEDC figures1) make
it the most efficient model in the Audi range.
The battery charges through normal driving
meaning electric charging isn’t a ‘must’. However,
a full charge can be achieved in as little as 2hrs
15mins from a recognised electric charge points.
The Government Plug-in Car Grant is available
for the A3 Sportback e-tron, which is now eligible,
and provides a subsidy of 25% (up to £5,000)
towards the price – see www.audi.co.uk/etron for
further information.
Sharing its crisp lines and revolutionary Audi virtual

TT and 310PS TTS Roadster (pictured left) debuted
at the Paris Show.
Open for ordering from mid-November, first
deliveries of the new TT are expected in Spring 2015
with TTS first deliveries in late Spring 2015.
As with the new TT Coupé, the TT Roadster will
be available with a 2.0 TFSI 230PS engine with
either front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel-drive.
Meanwhile, the 2.0 TDI ultra 184PS offers
combined fuel consumption in excess of 65mpg
with CO2 emissions of just 114g/km, yet is capable
of 0-62mph in 7.3secs and a top speed of 147mph.
The soft-top opens or closes in just 10secs,
even when the car is travelling at up to 31mph,
without compromising the 280 litre boot space.
The new TT Roadster is available in Sport and
S line trim levels, with P11D prices from £31,900.
Immediately identified by its restyled single
frame grille, new head and tail light designs with
LED headlights as standard, subtly resculpted
front and rear bumpers and trapezoidal exhaust
tailpipes, the new Audi A7 Sportback (pictured left
and right) is available to order now.
A choice of six refined and efficient EU6-
compliant engines include four TDI units with
power outputs ranging from 218PS to 320PS.
In particular, the new 3.0 TDI ultra 218PS
model with front-wheel-drive is capable of
returning 60.1mpg* on the combined cycle, while
CO2 emissions of just 122g/km help to reduce
Benefit-in-Kind tax.
Inside, upgraded infotainment systems also
feature, while outside dynamic indicators with a
sweeping function in the direction of the turn are
standard at the rear, optional at the front.

technology, more models than ever are seeing the benefits
of permanent all-wheel-drive in road cars.
Progressive technical development has evolved quattro
into today’s sophisticated, compact and lightweight system
that’s central to superior all-weather traction and grip.
We’re all familiar with difficult winters on the road,
with snow and ice causing hazardous driving conditions, not
to mention unpredictable downpours and floods.
Today, all-wheel-drive is synonymous with Audi through
quattro, with the latest systems providing optimum
traction and stability in all driving situations.
In fact, every Audi model series is available with
quattro, offering unrivalled choice and a reassuring
advantage in inclement weather.
Audi has decades of quattro expertise and an unrivalled
all-wheel-drive model range ensuring the best performance
and stability is available whatever the model.

Audi quattro: Grip, whatever the weather
Superior traction and grip means greater driver confidence
Audi quattro is intuitive, all-wheel-drive technology, that
transmits the engine’s drive to where it’s needed most
across all four wheels.
Just as our hands adjust their grip depending on the
object being held, quattro adapts to changing surfaces
beneath the wheels to keep the driver firmly in control.
It means surefooted cornering and superior traction in
rain, on ice, mud or loose surfaces. Even on perfect roads,
quattro works to combine precise control with the sporty
responsiveness that makes driving an Audi so rewarding.
With quattro, drivers benefit from an increased sense
of confidence, while positive roadholding and reassuring
handling offers greater security for all occupants.
Tailored systems for each Audi model
The quattro systems fitted to different Audi models vary in
design dependent on the drivetrain layout.
While quattro is usually associated with SUVs, and is

standard in the Q5 and Q7 as well as the A4 and A6 allroad,
it also offers benefits in more mainstream models.
Transverse-engined models such as the A3, Q3 and TT use
a hydraulic multi-plate clutch which reacts to variations in the
rotational speeds of the front and rear wheels. If one wheel
starts to spin, it creates a disparity in the system’s hydraulic
pressure, forcing the clutch plates together to direct more
drive to the non-spinning wheels.
For models where the engine is mounted longitudinally,
such as in the A4, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7, a self-locking
centre differential continuously monitors road conditions to
distribute drive to the wheels with the most grip.
A strong performance advantage
In the highest performing models in the Audi range, such as
the R8 and RS models, quattro uses a viscous coupling with
an asymmetric/dynamic drive distribution and a rear-biased
split for optimum enjoyment with the reassuring security of
permanent all-wheel drive.

The three faces of quattro
Hydraulic multi-plate clutch
There are three different types of quattro system, each tailored to specific models in the Audi range. They all work slightly differently, but the result is always the same: exceptional handling when you need it most.
Viscous coupling
Self-locking centre differential
Hydraulic multi-plate clutch quattro constantly adapts to road conditions and is designed for models where the engine is mounted across the chassis, such as the A3, Q3 and new TT.
Self-locking centre differential quattro is biased to the rear wheels for sportier handling, splitting power asymmetrically between all wheels. Fitted to A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7.
Light and compact, the viscous coupling is ideal for sportier models such as the R8, sending drive mainly to the rear. Drive can also go to the front wheels in difficult conditions.
A rare moment of calm: the participants enjoyed rapid lane-changing in wet and dry conditions, circuit driving tuition and slalom skill tests in Audi’s high performance flagship models – the RS 6 (pictured), TT RS and R8 V10 Plus
“It’s the best car here,” says Simon Li, Local Business Development
Manager at Newbury Audi after he’s sampled to the full the
capabilities of the Audi RS 6 on the Stowe Circuit at Silverstone.
“Show me another five-door supercar that you can drive like this on
the track and then take to Sainsbury’s with the family.”
He’s right, of course. And the statistics speak for themselves:
peak power of 560PS and 0-62mph in just 3.9secs, with a top
speed electronically limited to 155mph.
Plus, of course, the latest-generation quattro system
with Sport differential, ceramic brakes, RS-tuned adaptive
air suspension, an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and the
muscular hand-built looks that are the hallmark of quattro GmbH.
The occasion was the Audi Driving Experience. The cars were

the RS 6, as well as the TT RS and R8 V10 plus. And the participants
were a group of Local Business Development Managers who’d won a
place on the coveted Audi Driving Experience following outstanding
success in stock selling earlier this year.
“We’re all quite used to recommending customers and
business contacts for the Audi Driving Experience as a way of
bringing them closer to the brand,” says Shirley Johnston from
Preston Audi, “but actually to take part ourselves is a privilege
to be savoured.”
“It’s a great experience that showcases the technology and
engineering that goes into every Audi car,” adds Justin Mayes from
Milton Keynes Audi, whose brand new Audi Centre is featured on
page 5 of this issue of Progress.

An experience to savour: the Audi Driving Experience
In normal day to day life most people wouldn’t dream of being
able to drive iconic high performance cars such as these in anger
and in safety, but in the controlled safety of a circuit environment
the Audi Driving Experience helps make those dreams come true.
The instructing team on every Audi Driving Experience is a roll
call of previous Le Mans endurance race winners and drivers from
the Audi Sport team.
From high-speed lane-change manoeuvres in wet and dry
conditions to braking techniques and slalom car control, drivers
are shown how to take on the demands of the track – and how to
apply lessons learned to get the most from their Audi in everyday
driving conditions.
