Planning is flexible and alters with the children’s ideas and interests. Here
are examples of the things we may cover.

Physical Development Engaging in whole class Write Dance and Dough
Disco sessions. Wake and Shake twice a day.
Forest School Practise moving around safely and with control. Practise stopping and starting and using large
apparatus in the play area. Moving in a range of different ways such as
shuffling, rolling, crawling, walking, running, jumping, skipping, sliding and hopping.
Learning playground games e.g. duck, duck, goose Develop fine motor skills by using scissors of
different sizes, bead threading, pegs and pegboards, Lego, Duplo etc.
Literacy
Learn a range of nursery rhymes and engage in rhythmic activities.
Rhyming strings such as vet, pet, net etc. Assess children’s phonics ability.
Begin phonics phase 2. Read a range of traditional tales- The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the
Beanstalk. Discuss story structures- beginning, middle and end.
Describe main story settings, events and characters.
Look at illustrations and print in books. Plan a banquet in the Kings Castle- menu and
invitation Writing names- emergent writing.
Model sweeps and flicks when writing. Read CVC words such as sit, pin, tin etc. and tricky
words. Children to start reading books.
Mathematics Introduce Numberblocks.
Sorting sets- according to type, colour and own criteria. Counting on and back in ones and counting on in twos. Spotting patterns in numbers and continuing repeating
patterns. Matching, pairs. Recognising and ordering numerals to 20.
Numbers all around us. Counting reliably up to 6 objects. Problem Solving. Guessing/estimating- I wonder how
many marbles are in the jar. Data Handling- Do you like porridge? Are you afraid of
spiders? Using ten frames and Base 10 to add and subtract.
2D Shape- circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon Ordering- first, second, third etc.
Size- tallest, shortest, biggest, smallest. Ordering the bowls and chairs when reading Goldilocks.
Expressive Arts and Design Self portraits for the Birthday display. Using
mirrors to paint faces carefully. Learn the colours of the rainbow- colour mixing red
and yellow make orange Recreating buildings and structures with the
blocks- related to the Three Little Pigs. Make shadow puppets and stick puppets to retell
traditional tales. Learning new songs and rhymes.
Performing Harvest song in church. Listen to medieval chamber music.
Design and make coat of arms and flags. Explore the different sounds of instruments.
Free choice of painting Introduce the Creative trolley and share resources
Use a range of construction materials using the resources available in the baskets
Building dens using the den building equipment in the shed.
