The Indian retail industry has emerged as one of the most
vibrant and fast-paced industries. It accounts for over 10
per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
and approximately 8 per cent of the employment. India is
the world's fifth-largest global destination in the retail
space. The Indian retail trading has received Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI) equity inflows totaling US$ 537.61
million during April 2000–March 2016, according to the
Department of Industrial Policies and Promotion (DIPP).
A T Kearney, a US Based global management consulting
firm has ranked India as the fourth most attractive nation
for retail investment among 30 flourishing markets. The
retail market of India is the most promising market in the
world and is expected to reach a whooping Rs. 47 lakh
crore by 2016-17, as it expands at a compounded annual
growth rate of 15 per cent, according to the 'Yes Bank -
Assocham' study.
The MBA Retail Management program at UIAMS aims to
educate future managers for the organized retail sector
and endow them with the knowledge to contribute
towards the retail industry growth in India. It strives to
create a new generation of competent retail professionals
and aims to equip them with the best practices being
followed in the industry.
The course makes a student adept to thrive in a global
environment, which is constantly evolving in line with
consumer preferences, technology, and economic
conditions amongst several others. All these factors make
the retail environment highly challenging and this course
seeks to prepare students to face them with a repertoire
of competencies required. This comprehensive program
equips the students with advanced theoretical
knowledge combined with industry exposure and also
creates opportunities to learn from their practical
application. The industry demands talented professionals
in this fieldand UIAMS believes in providing the same.
