• risk is assessed,• expertise is defined,• decisions are made, and• uncertainty is mitigated and navigated.

In this seminar, you will learn how to mobilize rhetorical theory as “an instrument capable of performing...intricate analysis” (Fahnestock & Secor) and to navigate complexities associated with disability, disease, and crisis. We’ll explore a

working definition for “care” that is responsive to human frailty and vulnerability amidst constantly changing cellular, sociopolitical, economic, environmental, and technoscientific phenomena. Students interested in intersections between race, class, ethnicity, and biomedical science are especially encouraged to enroll.

Finally, you will have an opportunity to co-author a publishable manuscript about conducting sustainable research in the field of rhetoric of health and medicine.
