What'suniqueabouttheCPcurriculum?Students complete the four core componentsof theCPandtwo DP courses. The core consists of service learning,personalandprofessionalskills,languagedevelopmentandareflectiveproject.Inaddition,studentsselectacareer-relatedstudiesthatdrawallaspectsof theCPtogether.Thechosencareer-related studies path prepares students for highereducation, an internship, apprenticeship, or a position in adesignatedfieldofinterest.AcademicsthatenhancetheCPTheacademic rigorof theCareer-relatedProgramme (CP) isbuilt upon the high standards set by the IB's renownedDiploma Programme courses. This blend of academic andprofessionalstudycreatesaprogrammethatissuitablebothforstudentswithaparticularcareerinterest,andforstudentswho do not yet have a specific career pathway in mind.Exams at the end of each DP courses are assessed inaccordance with rigorous international standards. The IB iscommitted to testing relevant thinking skills by creatingmeaningful tasks that allow the student to show theirunderstanding of the subject—not just their memory skills.TheIBrecognizestheimportanceofexaminationresultsasapassport to university, and jobs and provides a worldwidestandard, which has retained its value and meaning overmanyyears.Post-SecondarydestinationsaftertheCPCP graduates are academically prepared for success atcompetitive universities around the world and are ready tocombine further studieswithapprenticeships, internshipsoremployment. Arecent study examined higher education

enrollment,destinationsandpersistenceof all CPgraduatesfrom theUSbetween2013 and2015. The study found thatfour out of five (81%) CP graduates enrolled in universitysometimeaftersecondaryschool.Ofthose,79%chosefour-year institutions over two-year colleges. They also tend tomajor in high-earning, career-oriented fields includingengineering,business,andhealthsciences.RooseveltHighSchool’spartnershipswithexpertsincareer-relatedstudies.Roosevelt partners with a variety of technical skillsassessment and hold articulation agreementswith a varietyof colleges in the Minneapolis, twin cities area. Career-related studies courses at Roosevelt are taught so thatstudentsareable tobe successfulon the skill examinations.Classes are also taught to specifications agreed on withcommunitycollegessuchasAnokaTechnicalCollege,DakotaCounty Technical College, Dunwoody college, HennepinTechnicalCollege,andMinneapolisCommunityandTechnicalCollege.WhatdoesIBDPlooklikeatRHS?In addition to Career-related Studies courses and PersonalandProfessionalSkills,RooseveltHighSchoolcurrentlyoffers15IBCareerProgram(CP)coursesacrossthe6subjectareas.IBDPCourses:

TheIBCareerProgramCOREatRHSPPS:OurPersonalandProfessionalskillssupportsstudentsintheir growth in the five central theme areas of: Personaldevelopment, Intercultural understanding, effectivecommunication,thinkingprocessesandappliedethics.ReflectiveProject: TheRPisaprojectlaunchedthroughthePPS course. Students are asked to identify an ethicaldilemmaintheircareerfieldofinterestandexploremultiplesides of the dilemma. This is an independent project that issupportedwiththecourseworkcompletedinthePPScourse.Service Learning Project: This is an independent projectcompleted by students outside of school hours. Studentscompletingthecertificateareexpectedtocomplete50hoursandareflectivejournal.Language Portfolio: This is an independent languagedevelopment portfolio. Students are expected to developskills in a language that they are not currently fluent in.Studentscompletingthecertificateareexpectedtocomplete50hours.WhendoesmystudentchooseIBCPcoursesatRHS?CourseRegistrationinearlyspring:ItisimportantforanystudentinterestedinbeingeitheranIBDiplomaCandidateoraMedallionCandidatetochecktheboxCareer Program Candidate or a CP Medallion Candidateindicatingtheirinterestwhentheyregisterforclasses.TheIBCoordinator will make certain the student’s schedule ismeetingthenecessaryrequirementstobeeligible foreitherrecognition.

Any student who wishes to take an IB and Career- relatedstudies course iswelcome and encouraged to do so. Somecourses do have ability/skill requirements. Teachers in thefollowing departments will make recommendations for theappropriately challenging course/pathways for your RHSstudent: Science, World Languages, Math. Most other IBcourses begin junior year either by student self-selectionand/orbyteacherrecommendation.My student is a freshman or sophomore, how do weprepareforIB?The recommendationwould be for students to ensure theyarepassingalloftheirclassessotheyenterjunioryearcreditready or credit advanced. Being supportive for learning toadvanceunderstanding,skillsandacademicmindednessandbea critical consumerof information shouldbeemphasizedovergrades.ThedistrictandcollegesconsideraCassuccessinthecourse.IBcoursesrequirestudentstoworkoutsideoftheclassesonhomework and studying to ensure they understand thematerial/conceptslearnedintheclassroom.Thereisahigherstudent responsibility for being proactive about their owneducation. SLcourses, ingeneral,will incorporateacademicskills into the course objectives, but HL courses pace is fastand students must advocate for their needs andcommunicatewiththeirteacherswhentheyfindthemselvesinneedofadditionalsupport.IB courses, especially PPS, require students to be openminded as they consider that other people, with theirdifferencescanalsoberight.IBExams&AssessmentsIBExamRegistrationRegistrationfor theMay IBexamshappens inOctober! TheIBDP Coordinator will visit every IB classroom and askstudentstofillinthepaperworkfortheexamstheyintendedto take in the spring. The cost for each exam is $54.Free/Reduced lunch students’ tests are fully paid for by thedistrict, and scholarships are available for non-free/reducedfamilies. Oncea student is registered for theexam,weaskthemtofollowthroughandtaketheexam.Thosewhofailtotake the exams they register for may be subject to a fee.Eachcourseexamspanstwodays;attendanceisrequiredforbothdays.ExamstakeplacebothatRHSandatoneoffsitelocationneartheschool.Career-relatedStudiesExamsThesewillbe takenat theendof the semester longcourse.There is no fee for the tests. Students are expected toparticipate in the exam. The exams are given at RooseveltHighSchoolasapartoftheircourse.
