Lesson4:DigitalCommunicationSummary:ThislessonisademonstrationaboutelectromagneticenergyandhowthatenergyistransferredviavisibleandIRlightwavestosoundenergy(digitalsignals).Studentswillinvestigatehowthelengthofthewaveaffectshowlightenergyistransmitted.Conceptsofdigitalsignal,visible,infraredormicrowavewavesareintroduced.StudentObjectives:Studentswillanalyzethedifferencebetweenthetransmissionpropertiesofdifferentelectromagnetic(light)wavesusingadigitalsign.

Explain:

Sharewiththestudentsthatwhenthesensorturnsoffandon,thereisachangeinthesignaltoelectricalenergy.Thisisjustlikethebinarycodeusedbycomputersandotherdevicestoencodeinformation.Signalscanbecodedintoaseriesofpulses.Thesignalcanonlybeonoroff.Thesearecalleddigitalsignals.
