DXM Wireless GatewayExpedite your Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solution with a powerful wireless gateway that is available in an industry-hardened package for tough environments or a DIN rail version for factory floor enclosures
The DXM Gateway offers seamless connectivity by creating a robust wireless network that will host the sensor radios used to acquire and transmit data from assets within the industrial application The on-board display is used to bind the radios to the wireless network and an internal cellular modem provides a pre-configured connection to a 4G LTE network
Q45 All-in-One Sensor NodesQ45 Sensor Nodes are self-contained wireless solutions for battery powered monitoring
Q45 Series All-in-One devices combine a wireless ISM radio sensor and battery power supply in one easy-to-deploy device that monitors assets and equipment in remote and hard-to-access locations
Measure phenomena such as rotary equipment vibration temperature and relative humidity material levels and pressure with industrial grade sensors The SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit is pre-configured to process data from up to 10 of these devices which allows you to begin with a base system and adapt to personalize for your application with additional sensors

Configuring the System
1 Supply power to all devicesThe SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit arrives with all necessary power sources needed to get the system operating quickly This includes lithium batteries for the Q45 All-in-One Sensor Nodes and a DC power supply for the DXM Gateway
DXM Wireless Gateway1 Connect the power supply to the DXM using the Euro-style or barrel jack connector of the cable assembly2 Insert the wall plug end of the power supply into a power outlet using the appropriate plug adapter for your region
Q45 All-in-One Sensor Nodes1 Loosen the clamp plate on the top of the Q45 and lift the cover2 Slide the battery holder out of the Q45 housing3 Use two 36 V AA lithium batteries such as Xenorsquos XL-60F or equivalent4 Verify the positive and negative terminals of each battery align to the positive and negative terminals of the battery holder
mounted within the case Caution There is a risk of damage if the battery is installed incorrectly5 Slide the board containing the batteries back into the Q45 housing and verify the arrows on the board are pointing down
into the housing If the device does not automatically power on press the button down for 5 seconds or until the LED starts flashing red
The LED flashes red every three seconds to indicate the device is ready DO NOT fasten the lid closed until instructed

The top-level menu always displays the time in a 24-hour format

In the left column an arrow indicates the menu has sub-menus The right column shows a vertical line with an arrow at the bottom if the user can scroll down to see more menu items
Enter Binding Mode on the DXMBefore beginning the binding procedure verify power is applied to all devices Separate DXM and Sensor Node radios by a minimum of 45 m (15 ft) when running the binding procedure If multiple DXMs are available put only one into binding mode at a time to prevent a Sensor Node from binding to the wrong network
1 On the DXM Use the arrow keys to select the ISM Radio menu on the LCD and click ENTER2 Highlight the Binding menu and click ENTER3 Use the arrow keys to select the Node Address you intend to assign to the Q45 You may only use Node IDs 1ndash10 with a

5 On the Q45 Enter binding mode on the Q45 by triple-clicking the powerbinding button
The red and green LEDs flash alternately as the sensor searches for a DXM in binding mode After the Q45 binds the LEDs stay solid momentarily then flash together four times The Q45 exits binding mode
6 Label the Q45 with the assigned Node Address7 Close the cover of the Q45 and tighten the clamp plate securely8 On the DXM Click BACK to exit binding for that specific Node
Address9 Repeat steps 3 through 8 for as many Q45s as are needed for the
network Assign a unique Node Address for each Sensor Node as you repeat these steps
10 After all Q45s have completed the binding procedure click BACK on the DXM until you have returned to the main menu
After all radios have been bound to the wireless network the next section guides you through the process of communicating the sensor data to the Cloud platform This is achieved by connecting the DXM to a cellular network and then accessing the data by activating the cellular and Cloud service

Select the Cellular Data PlanThe SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit uses a cellular network specifically designed for IoT devices that use low power have minimal data consumption and are low cost
Banner has allocated a cellular plan devoted for your 90-day trial period and the data consumed by a SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit Click on Choose Your Cellular Data Plan From the region drop-down list select United States if you are within the contiguous United States Select North America if your system will be used in Alaska Hawaii Canada or Mexico
From the drop-down list of cellular data plans select the Starter Kit (50MB Plan) This is the size of data plan best suited for a kit with 10 sensors or fewer bound to the DXM

Create an Account1 Enter an email address (username) and password2 Enter the requested payment information for your account
Redeem your Prepaid Card1 After you have created your account navigate to the Prepaid Card Redemption section of
the screen 2 Enter the authorization code on the Authorization Code Insert included with the
SmartSolutionsreg StarterKit This code applies a $45 credit to your account that covers the cost of a 50MB data plan for 90 days
Add a Device to Cellular Network1 Navigate to the My Services and Equipment section The purchased line of service displays 2 Click on the drop-down arrow next to the cellular carrier to expose the ICCID and IMEI entry fields Select the appropriate cellular
carrier for your kit Select Verizon for a kit with model number ending in -V select ATampT for kit with model number ending in -A3 Enter the respective numbers into these entry fields The ICCID and IMEI numbers are on the back label of the DXM
Device Status ConfirmationRefresh the page as prompted The device appears under the carrier line of service with a Status of Active It can take up to 5 minutes for the cellular module to be recognized by the network Please wait until Status has changed to Active before proceeding
The DXM is now connected to the cellular network The next step is to provide access to the Sensor Node data using an application on the Cloud platform
Ethernet ConnectionThe SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit is intended for deployment primarily using cellular connection As with any wireless network there may be applications for which cellular connection is not feasible or appropriate Ethernet connections can be easily configured with the SmartSolutions StarterKit Please visit wwwbannerengineeringcomstarterkitsupport and consult the Ethernet Technical Note for instructions on how to configure the kit for an Ethernet connection

5Add a New DXM GatewayAfter launching the CDS webpage the Gateways screen displays Use the Gateways screen to add the DXM to the Cloud application and generate a Dashboard
1 Click on (+New Gateway) in the top-right corner of the Gateways screen 2 Name your DXM and enter the serial number The serial number is can be found on the back of the DXM or by using the LCD
menu On the DXMrsquos main menu scroll to System Info and then press ENTER twice to view the seven-digit serial number at the bottom of the information list
3 Enter all seven digits into the DXM Serial entry field on Banner CDS4 Verify that Configuration is set to Starter Kit This allows the Banner CDS application to automatically create Dashboard layouts and
metrics for the solution Click (Create)
The Banner CDS application creates a site for the system and begins searching for a data push from the DXM The SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit is designed to push data once every ten minutes to the Cloud
The DXM Gateway could take up to ten minutes to complete recognition by the system To reduce this detection period perform a manual Data Push using the DXMrsquos on-board LCD buttons and menu system or simply wait for the data push to occur Please see step six for instructions on how to perform a data push manually or skip to the next section

6 Perform a Manual Data Push1 On the DXM use the arrow keys to scroll to the Push menu 2 Press ENTER three times (through the menu shown) to trigger a Data Push This manual push may take 1-2 minutes to
complete 3 After the Data Push is completed the Banner CDS application detects the DXM and creates a Dashboard containing an
icon for each Sensor Node bound to the DXM
Performing a manual data push supersedes the auto node discovery feature within the DXM If all Nodes currently bound to the DXM do not appear on the dashboard upon the initial push please allow the DXM to push automatically before attempting to rebind the Nodes

View Dashboard and Set ParametersAfter Banner CDS has created the site and detected the device click on Go to Dashboard (Go to Dashboard) The
(Dashboard) panel appears and displays the icons for each radio bound to the DXM Hover over and click the icons to view the default alarms currently established for each radio along with the latest value submitted by the DXM
Edit these alarms as needed by clicking on the (Edit) button next to each alarm or by navigating to the (Alarms) screen
Click on the (Data) tab to view the list of registers for each radio bound to the DXM The model number
connection status and relevant data for each radio is listed Edit the register names as desired by clicking on (Edit) next to the register

The top-level menu always displays the time in a 24-hour format
bull The up and down arrows scroll through display itemsbull The enter button selects the highlighted items on the displaybull The back button returns to a previous menu option
In the left column an arrow indicates the menu has sub-menus The right column shows a vertical line with an arrow at the bottom if the user can scroll down to see more menu items
Enter Binding Mode on the DXMBefore beginning the binding procedure verify power is applied to all devices Separate DXM and Sensor Node radios by a minimum of 45 m (15 ft) when running the binding procedure If multiple DXMs are available put only one into binding mode at a time to prevent a Sensor Node from binding to the wrong network
1 On the DXM Use the arrow keys to select the ISM Radio menu on the LCD and click ENTER2 Highlight the Binding menu and click ENTER3 Use the arrow keys to select the Node Address you intend to assign to the Q45 You may only use Node IDs 1ndash10 with a

5 On the Q45 Enter binding mode on the Q45 by triple-clicking the powerbinding button
The red and green LEDs flash alternately as the sensor searches for a DXM in binding mode After the Q45 binds the LEDs stay solid momentarily then flash together four times The Q45 exits binding mode
6 Label the Q45 with the assigned Node Address7 Close the cover of the Q45 and tighten the clamp plate securely8 On the DXM Click BACK to exit binding for that specific Node
Address9 Repeat steps 3 through 8 for as many Q45s as are needed for the
network Assign a unique Node Address for each Sensor Node as you repeat these steps
10 After all Q45s have completed the binding procedure click BACK on the DXM until you have returned to the main menu
After all radios have been bound to the wireless network the next section guides you through the process of communicating the sensor data to the Cloud platform This is achieved by connecting the DXM to a cellular network and then accessing the data by activating the cellular and Cloud service

Banner has allocated a cellular plan devoted for your 90-day trial period and the data consumed by a SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit Click on Choose Your Cellular Data Plan From the region drop-down list select United States if you are within the contiguous United States Select North America if your system will be used in Alaska Hawaii Canada or Mexico
From the drop-down list of cellular data plans select the Starter Kit (50MB Plan) This is the size of data plan best suited for a kit with 10 sensors or fewer bound to the DXM

Create an Account1 Enter an email address (username) and password2 Enter the requested payment information for your account
Redeem your Prepaid Card1 After you have created your account navigate to the Prepaid Card Redemption section of

SmartSolutionsreg StarterKit This code applies a $45 credit to your account that covers the cost of a 50MB data plan for 90 days
Add a Device to Cellular Network1 Navigate to the My Services and Equipment section The purchased line of service displays 2 Click on the drop-down arrow next to the cellular carrier to expose the ICCID and IMEI entry fields Select the appropriate cellular
carrier for your kit Select Verizon for a kit with model number ending in -V select ATampT for kit with model number ending in -A3 Enter the respective numbers into these entry fields The ICCID and IMEI numbers are on the back label of the DXM
Device Status ConfirmationRefresh the page as prompted The device appears under the carrier line of service with a Status of Active It can take up to 5 minutes for the cellular module to be recognized by the network Please wait until Status has changed to Active before proceeding
The DXM is now connected to the cellular network The next step is to provide access to the Sensor Node data using an application on the Cloud platform

5Add a New DXM GatewayAfter launching the CDS webpage the Gateways screen displays Use the Gateways screen to add the DXM to the Cloud application and generate a Dashboard
1 Click on (+New Gateway) in the top-right corner of the Gateways screen 2 Name your DXM and enter the serial number The serial number is can be found on the back of the DXM or by using the LCD
menu On the DXMrsquos main menu scroll to System Info and then press ENTER twice to view the seven-digit serial number at the bottom of the information list
3 Enter all seven digits into the DXM Serial entry field on Banner CDS4 Verify that Configuration is set to Starter Kit This allows the Banner CDS application to automatically create Dashboard layouts and
metrics for the solution Click (Create)
The Banner CDS application creates a site for the system and begins searching for a data push from the DXM The SmartSolutionstrade StarterKit is designed to push data once every ten minutes to the Cloud
The DXM Gateway could take up to ten minutes to complete recognition by the system To reduce this detection period perform a manual Data Push using the DXMrsquos on-board LCD buttons and menu system or simply wait for the data push to occur Please see step six for instructions on how to perform a data push manually or skip to the next section
Connecting the Data
6 Perform a Manual Data Push1 On the DXM use the arrow keys to scroll to the Push menu 2 Press ENTER three times (through the menu shown) to trigger a Data Push This manual push may take 1-2 minutes to
complete 3 After the Data Push is completed the Banner CDS application detects the DXM and creates a Dashboard containing an
icon for each Sensor Node bound to the DXM
Performing a manual data push supersedes the auto node discovery feature within the DXM If all Nodes currently bound to the DXM do not appear on the dashboard upon the initial push please allow the DXM to push automatically before attempting to rebind the Nodes

(Dashboard) panel appears and displays the icons for each radio bound to the DXM Hover over and click the icons to view the default alarms currently established for each radio along with the latest value submitted by the DXM
Edit these alarms as needed by clicking on the (Edit) button next to each alarm or by navigating to the (Alarms) screen
Click on the (Data) tab to view the list of registers for each radio bound to the DXM The model number
connection status and relevant data for each radio is listed Edit the register names as desired by clicking on (Edit) next to the register
