This coveted awardrecognises one of the region’sbrightest new businesses and thecontribution it will make to thecounty in the future. Judges willbe tasked with analysing businessplans, achievements to date andpotential for growth within thenext few years.

IF the quality of the entriesmatches that of the companies thathave signed up to sponsor theDerby Telegraph Business Awards2018, then it should once again bea closely fought contest.

Ye s t e rd ay, representatives fromall the businesses who have signedup to sponsor the awards cametogether for a Sponsors’ Breakf astat the University of Derby’sEnterprise Centre.

They were given a chance tonetwork before being briefed onthe role they will play in judgingall 15 award categories – entriesfor which close on March 2.

Organised in conjunction withChampions (UK) plc, the awardshave once again attracted anenviable line-up of big-namesponsors, none more so thanheadline sponsors Derby College,Smith Partnership and ThomasInter national.

But as well as being headlinesponsors, these companies are alsosponsoring individual categories.

Derby College, which will onceagain be hosting the awardsceremony at its Roundhousebuilding on Wednesday, June 13, is

backing the coveted Company ofthe Year accolade.

THE University of Derby’s Enterprise Centre was the perfect venue togather all the Derby Telegraph Business Awards sponsors under oneroof. The centre, which cost £8 million to build, opened in 2010.

The Bridge Street venue has 11 meeting rooms, air-conditioning,break-out areas, free Wi-Fi and on-site parking, as well as state-of-the-art facilities such as audiovisual equipment.

Among those who attended thebreakfast event was ChrisHaseldine, director of Alertergroup, which is sponsoring theFamily Business of the YearAward, which is a new categoryfor this year’s awards

He said: “As a second-generationfamily business ourselves, it isalways nice to be able to supportand promote other local familybusinesses. While we alreadyknow some in the area, we arelooking forward to finding outabout many more during thejudging process and to understandhow being a family businesscontributes to their particulars u c c e s s. ”

Also among the attendees wasRussell Davies, partner and headof dispute resolution at SmithPartnership.
