Practice 1: Take a Disciplined Approach
Help your clients develop and use a structure that works for them
Encourage taking small steps Have them focus their attention and energy where they have control
Practice 2: Manage Stress and Emotions
Help them develop a daily regimen of self-care, making this an integral part of their job search
Have them focus on the tasks right in front of them; teach them how to put emotions to the side
Encourage the asking for help before it is desperately needed
Practice 3: Develop Actionable Goals and Plans
Have them create A, B, and possibly C goals and spending appropriate time on each
Guide them in stepping out of their comfort zone, as necessary, to keep things moving
Help them to do all necessary research to insure that their goals and plans are inspiring, realistic, and feasible
Practice 4: Trust the Process Help them to be disciplined and accountable for their actions
Show them how this as an opportune time to develop in new ways and learn new things
Remind them that the job search has a logic and timing of its own; it’s rarely, if ever, personal
Practice 5: Keep a Positive Attitude
Remind them that this time period is just one small part of their life story
Help them to affirm and communicate their strengths to self and others
Guide them in being mindful of their choices
Practice 6: Allow for Moments of Inspiration and
Awe Encourage the making time every day for silence, meditation, or prayer
Remind them to allow their sense of the divine to infuse the job search in appropriate ways
Help them to remember that the journey itself is as meaningful as reaching the destination

Choices/decisions to be made? Practices to put into action? Information to gather, understand,
and utilize? Others?
