Teaching the First Course in Management Information Systems: A Framework

Challenges:
Teaching the first course in MIS could be a difficult and challenging task
Some students come to the course with lots of background (Technical / Business)
Some students come with little to no background Teaching the course in a pure theory format would be uninteresting Teaching it in a pure technical manner could discourage certain students The instructor job is defined but the student job is not as well defined
My Background:
I have taught this course for over 30 years I am the author of 47 textbooks, 27 manuals, and more than 5 dozen technical articles and papers
on various aspects of MIS
I serve as the editor-in-chief of five major Encyclopedias and Handbooks on MIS, the Internet, Information Security, Computer Networks, and Technology Management
I helped set up the first PC Lab in the United States and served as its first director
