BOOK FAIR
13-14 JUNE
PRINCIPAL’S PATTER
Hello Everyone
We will be holding our Open Afternoon on Monday 25 June, from 3.10 pm to
5.00 pm. Parents will be able to visit classrooms to view their children’s work,
class displays and receive end of semester reports. Please put this important
date in your diaries, as we would really like to see all parents coming along if
possible. Anyone who is unable to attend our Open Afternoon can make
alternative arrangements with their classroom teachers. Please note that
the Edu Dance Concert (P-6) will also be held during the afternoon from 2.30
– 3.10pm, and the P & C will also be holding various fund raising events.
Next Friday (June 8th) all our students from years 4-6 will participate in the
Winter Carnival to be held at our school and Seamers Sports Centre. Sports
to be played include netball, soccer and volleyball and other schools
competing are Takari, Osborne, East Hamersley and Lake Monger.
Games start at 12.45pm and conclude at 2.45pm. Parents and friends are
welcome to come and spectate and to cheer our teams on.
Over the next few weeks, we hope to have work commenced on the
upgrading of our netball/basketball courts (weather permitting).
Have a great weekend everyone – welcome to winter.

CONGRATULATIONS
WELL DONE
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME DAY
National Simultaneous Story time is held annually by the
Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a
picture book,
written and
illustrated by
an Australian
author and
illustrator, is read simultaneously
in libraries, schools, pre-schools,
childcare centres, family
homes, bookshops and many
other places around the
country. This year NSS took
place on Wednesday 23 May at
11am. Miss Ridley captivated P/P –
3’s attention in the undercover area
by reading this year’s chosen book,
Hickory Dickory Dash written by Tony
Wilson, (illustrator Laura Wood).
While the juniors
were listening to
Hickory Dickory
Dash, the Year 4,
5 & 6 students listened to the story Sam,
Grace and the Shipwreck, written by
Michelle Gillespie. This was read by Mrs.
Keen in the library assisted by Jenna from
Room 6 who held a second copy so the
students could follow the storyline supported by the illustrations
in the book by Sonia Martinez.
It tells the
dramatic story of
the shipwreck of
the SS Georgette
in 1876 off the
south coast of
Western Australia
and the heroic
efforts by a local
stockman and a
16 year old girl to
rescue and help
survivors from the turbulent waters, whilst on horseback.

Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising children as readers’ means
getting involved while they are young. Now is the time. Since there will never be a

make plans to visit our Book Fair. Hope to see you there!
Book Fair Dates: Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 June
Shopping Hours: 8.30am to 9am and 3.10pm to 3.30pm in the library
Special Event 1: Colouring-in competitions for the juniors
Special Event 2: Guessing competitions for the Year 3 - 6 students
All winners will be able to choose a book from the fair to the value of $15.00, on
Thursday!!!!
Students will have the opportunity to view the fair during class time on the Wednesday and
may complete a “Wish List” of titles to take home to parents for consideration of purchase.
Payments may be made in cash at time of purchase and EFTPOS facilities will be
available. Credit card payments can also be made online by ringing Scholastic direct.
Details are on the back of the Book Fair Invitation being sent home next week and the
Wish List form that will come home with your child on Wednesday 13th.

SCHOOL- AGED HEALTH SERVICES PARENT SURVEY Help the Department of Health to improve school-aged health services
Do you have a child aged between 3 and 18 years? Child and Adolescent Community Health & WA Country Health Service are reviewing the community health services provided to school-aged children across Western Australia. You are invited to complete a short survey to help them understand what is important to you, what is working well and what could be made better. For more information and to complete the survey, visit http://helathywa.wa.gov.au/School-health-services. The survey closes on Friday 8 June.

What is Commitment? Commitment is caring deeply about something or someone. It is the willingness to give your all to friendship, a task, or something you believe in. It is the ability to make decisions and follow through on them. It is keeping your promises.
Why Practise It? Without commitment, we just drift along, with no idea where we are going. We change our minds. We give up easily if things get too hard. We break our word. We give up on people we care about if they disappoint us or make a mistake. When we are committed, people can count on us to keep our promises. With commitment we can achieve great things.
Signs of Success Congratulations! You are practising Commitment when you:
• think before you make a promise
• keep every agreement you make
• make decisions confidently
• go the extra mile
• give 100% to everything you do
• are faithful to people you care about
CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
Remember that our School Breakfast Club is in the
undercover area every Tuesday morning before School
from 8:20am. Bring your children along and meet other
parents. It is a great time for our students to see their
friends & get the energy they need to focus & learn well.
We would be very glad to see any parents/ grandparents
/carers that can help with making toast, milo, cutting up
fruit or pouring drinks.
We are very much seeking some volunteers, so,
please let the office, Mr Cox or Mrs McCarthy
know if you can help one or more weeks this
term. Thank you.
