FDG Visits Michigan SC
AUP and EASNAC Presidents Bring Michigan MembersTogether
By Cynthia Mae Helms, PRO, Michigan Subchapter
Only the president of Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) could cook up a potluck in 24hours! This is what exactly happened when Dr. Frank D. Gayoba made a quick decision to be inBerrien Springs after a change of plans. When a group of about 20 Michiganders met at theMichiana Fil-Am Church on Sept. 9 at 8:00 in the evening, they quizzed Dr. Gayoba during themeal and then gave him the opportunity to present his power point about AUP. He casually mixedwith the group and answered queries about events and incidents in the University. He also cateredto their interest in the growth of the University, with particular emphasis on the College of Medicine(which someone suggested should be called College of Medical Education if they were going tointegrate other medically-related fields such as nursing, medical technology, dentistry, etc. in thesame building). The groundwork for the building has been laid but the bigger hurdle is puttingtogether a teaching staff of committed clinicians who are willing to undergo training that will
prepare them to teach. Like all other major projects of the University, funds are needed tocomplete the College of Medicine. The plea is for medical practitioners to commit to at least twoweeks of teaching, and for the alumni to financially support the medical school.
The second meeting was held on Sept. 20 with none other than Salcor Quines, the new presidentof EASNAC. The Michigan subchapter members are very proud that one of their own has givenEASNAC a major thrust by accomplishing something that previous administrations had dreamedabout and talked about—the merging of EASNAC and the Foundation into one EASNAC Inc.Salcor has been an inspiration and a mover in the subchapter, and can certainly be the same for the entire EASNAC. Congratulations and thanks to Salcor, we are now able to give tax-deductibledonations to EASNAC and our alma mater!
Several decisions were made at the second meeting. To be sensitive to members who may bestruggling financially, the group voted to abolish the practice of collecting $5 donations at eachmeeting time. Donations are still encouraged but they do not have to be a set amount eachmeeting time. Members and visitors are welcome to come for fellowship without the pressure of adonation. President Quines reminds the members that since EASNAC is now incorporated, membership fees are now considered as donations. It was also voted that EASNAC accept theinvitation to joint AWESNA at next year’s convention.

Changes in EASNAC That You Should Know
As old as EASNAC (the alumni chapter) is, it is still evolving as the need arises toserve us better.
One of the major changes this year is the merger of EASNAC the alumniorganization with the PUC/AUP Alumni Association USA Inc., a separate entitybetter known to us as the EASNAC Foundation.
The new entity will be known as EASNAC Inc. Currently an ad-hoc committee ofthree is rewriting a new Constitution and By-laws melding the old workingconstitution and by-laws of the two separate entities. The ad-hoc committee iscomposed of Sam Villanueva, Ronald Quiba and Norman Gensolin.
The EASNAC Foundation was organized to create the AUP Endowment Fund and
initially raise a million dollars. The fund’s revenue interest has the provision as it’scharitable arm to support the Adventist University of the Philippines and otherprojects the directors of the foundation board approve. There has been a waninginterest among the EASNAC members to donate to this fund.
With the new presidency, there is a movement to get the EASNAC Foundationrevived and get the members involved to go on and reach the goal of raising amillion dollars. However, the change is to work within the alumni organizationrather than having a totally separate entity with different constitution and by-laws.
There will be a closer supervision as we raise the million-dollar fund, as there willonly be one organization. The Foundation part will now be managed by a committeewithin the EASNAC organization to function as expected.
The fund is far from reaching the million-dollar goal. It has at least less than$200,000 and that is a fifth of the goal reached.
The Foundation Committee is cut down to 5 members instead of seven to overseethe fund-raising and led by a chairman. It is hoped that we can get back to theenthusiasm to raise the first funds. With EASNAC being incorporated, alumni dues
will all be cancelled but donations will be greatly encouraged to fund the operationof EASNAC as the alumni association.
We will report on the metamorphosis of the new fund-raising arm of EASNAC as itcontinues to improve to serve our organization. By SBV
