Transitions Addressed by Council President
Greetings!
Things are starting to happen in the realm of finding an interim
pastor. The Council has an interview board that has interviewed
one candidate, and will be interviewing another within a couple of
weeks. I have spoken with both candidates, and they each would
prove to be very good interims. Also, a lot is happening in the way
of personnel shifts within Augustana. First, our Sexton, Mark, has
decided to leave his post to pursue other opportunities. The
search for a new Sexton is underway. Second, our Church Admin-
istrator, Denene, has also chosen to leave Augustana and pursue
other opportunities. Never fear, however! A new Church Adminis-
trator will join us imminently! Lauren Wainwright, who was with
Augustana some years ago, rejoins the team in the interim, and is
excited to get started helping our Church move forward into a new
era. Welcome back, Lauren!
Finally, I would like to Express gratitude on behalf of the Council
and myself, for your patience and understanding during our transi-
tion period. Routines have been disrupted, and the perception is
that business is not running as usual. However, with the vital func-
tions of the church, particularly worship and music as an example,
we have a strong membership as leaders in those areas, and they
are getting the job done. There are definitely people that can an-
swer questions and address concerns.
God's blessings to you all!

Season after Pentecost
August 4 Eight Sunday after Pentecost Today’s texts offer instruction and encourage-ment for all who are occasionally overwhelmed by the “unhappy business” of life. Jesus urges us to take care and be on guard against all kinds of greed. We who have died with Christ in holy baptism have also been raised with him and are encouraged to elevate our thinking, seeking the “things that are above.” To that end we seek the sustenance of the Lord’s supper and the encouragement of God’s word.
August 11 Ninth Sunday after Pentecost Jesus says, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” It is God’s promise from the beginning—to Abraham, to the early church, and to the “little flock” of which we are a part today in assem-bly. Faith, God’s baptismal gift, trusts the promises of God. Have no fear.
August 18 Tenth Sunday after Pentecost The word of God is a refining fire. Jesus is the great divide in human history. He invites our undivid-ed attention and devotion. Today, in the assembly, we are surrounded by “so great a cloud of witnesses.” In the word and in the holy communion we are invited yet again to look to Jesus, “the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”
August 25: Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost Remember the sabbath day. Call the sabbath a delight. This is the Lord’s day, and the Lord will do for us what the Lord does: feed us, forgive us, help and heal us. Rejoice at all the wonderful things God is do-ing.
September 1: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost Invited and inviting—that is the nature of the church. By God’s grace in holy baptism we have a place at the banquet table of the Lord. When, by the power of that same Spirit, humility and mutual love continue among us, the church can be more inviting still.
Piece Corps Sewing Group
Piece Corps Quilters is now Piece Corps Sewing Group.
We have designers, cutters, pinners, ironers and, of course, people who use the sewing machines.
Come and join us and bring a sack lunch on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. We meet from 10 AM- 2 PM in Reformation Hall.
We have averaged making 100 quilts a year most of which we donate to the Council on Sexual As-sault and Domestic Violence (CSADV) here in Sioux City and to Lutheran World Relief (LWR). We also give our high school seniors a quilt when they graduate.
Call Marge Swanson (252-1446) for questions.

Volunteers Needed Don’t you just love to see all the excited children go forward for the Chil-dren’s Moment? As Pastor Del has said many times, “WE ARE SO BLESSED!” We have to keep our children involved and we don’t want them to miss having their Children’s Moments so are you willing to spend a few moments with them on some Sunday mornings telling them a story or giving them some words of wisdom, etc.? If you are available dur-ing July and August, please let Diana Wooley or Judy Swanson know. This would be at our one service at 9:30 A.M.

To the congregation of
Augustana Lutheran
Church
Thank you all for your continued
patience and support during this
time of transition . What a beautiful
farewell we had for Pastor Del and Jane on June 30th. Many
thanks to all who contributed to such a beautiful and fitting
farewell celebration. Congregation Council met on July 9th, a
meeting that we generally skip in the summer time, but we felt
there was lots of work that needs to be done and many bases
to cover. One of those bases is our staff members here at
Augustana. The staff members were used to being directed
daily by Pastor Del. We are reaching out to the congregation
to ask for their patience as we go through transition with staff
members as well. We are currently hiring a part-time Sexton
and in search of a office administrator. We wish Mark and
Denene success as they move on to new ventures. If you
know of anyone that is interested in any either of these posi-
tions please reach out to Caleb Christopherson. Also we
would like to welcome back Lauren Wainwright as she will be
helping out in the church office until we hire a new church ad-
ministrator.
The Council is reaching out to anyone that would like to join
us on Tuesday mornings at 9 am for a weekly church clean-
ing.
And reminder from our last month’s message, right now, Au-
gustana needs you and the best thing that you can do is to
stay active in your congregation by attending weekly services,
joining a mission team, helping around the church whenever
you can and giving generously so that our church will be as
strong as ever when our new pastor arrives.
Thank you and God bless,
Lila Plambeck,
Augustana Congregational Council Member.
Up from the Earth Members of Augustana: Do you have a veg-etable garden? Do you have room for an extra row of vegetables? From the abundance God provides us, it would be good to share with those who experience food insecurity. Seeds are available on the hallway table in the lower level. Founded on February 1, 2014, Up From The Earth exists to connect extra produce from home gardens to people in need. Up from the Earth is a voluntary system for connecting excess produce from home gardens to people in need. The program encourages home gardeners to "grow an extra row" and fa-cilitates the gathering and distribution of excess fruits and veggies to those in need through exist-ing food pantries. Produce is taken from the designated col-lection sites to any one of a dozen or so local food pantries who have the storage and capacity to distribute it to their clients. To date, over a dozen Sioux City churches of varying denominations have stepped up to close the gap between garden and table. Each congregation has appointed a Garden Produce Coordinator to be a point person for the project. The Garden Produce Coordinators work with home gardeners within their congregations to collect fresh produce and deliver it to local food pantries for distribution to families in need. Supporting the effort is a group of local vol-unteers who have formed the Up From The Earth core committee.
Up From The Earth is thrilled to report that during its inaugural year, over 6000 pounds of fresh produce was placed into the local food pantry system. You may bring your produce to the church and we will add it to the campaign at St. Mark Lutheran and First Lutheran churches.
