SYLLABUS IN TRCHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION I2011-2015
I. Course Description
People nowadays are so much engrossed with technological advancement that they tend to focus their education towards this direction. Even with the advent of computers and highly technical gadgets, it is very important to master the basics of daily activities especially the basic repairs and operation of the sewing machine for practical purposes. The learner is further exposed to real-life situations to apply values in what they learned in the course.
TLE 1 has been designed to develop the basic skills of students as they prepare to meet the demands of modern technology. Thet are trained to learn basic skills so they can manage to support their own basic clothing needs.
The course is divided into three phases and each phase allots time for each genre of literature required in the 2010 Secondary Education Curriculum, namely, narrative, drama, poetry, and essay. Philippine Literature is also included in each phase to create a connection between the Filipino culture and the general culture of the world in the different periods of history.
The first phase of TLE I focuses on the basic sewing operation and troubleshooting for the students’ preparation in using the sewing machine up to the third grading and even for the life time used.
The second phase of the program aims to deepen the students’ skills in operating and trouble shooting the sewing machine as they make and sew their apron using the sewing machine. This will manifest how students learned from the first grading period.
The last phase of the program aims to continue and enhance the students’ skills in using or operating the sewing machine by making a pair of shorts. A critical thinking is also applied since they are going to measure their body and make their pattern, it should be done accurately for them to come up with a a well-fitted shorts. At the final phase of the curriculum, it primarily aims to provide maximum practice of all the acquired skills. It is in this regard that students are given the tasks to offer help to those who need more assistance in order to complete their requirements.
II. Program and General Standards
Program StandardThe learner demonstrates the knowledge and skills learned by setting the sewing machine correctly, running it smoothly and apply necessary remedies
as need arises.
General StandardThe learner demonstrates the knowledge and skills learned by making a well fitted apron and shorts.
III. Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the school year, the students are expected to:
A. identify the parts of the sewing machine;B. describe the function of each part;C. discuss the different problems encountered using the sewing machine and identify the possible ways to troubleshoot each problem;D. troubleshoot the sewing machine immediately as need arises; E. identify the body parts needed in making an apron and a shorts;F. make a pattern accurately base on the actual body measurement;G. sew their apron and shorts using the sewing machine correctly and with ease;H. appreciate a well sewn apron and shorts.
IV. Course Essential Understandings
A. Sewing may be applied in our every day used. It can also be a source of income and somehow make some people popular because of the skill learned. Ino Sotto, and Rajo Laurel are just two of those who succeeded in their career as a couturiers’ or simply dress maker and designers.
B. And since modern technology is very evident and being used, students tend to neglect the subject and the importance of the skills that they could learn from sewing. The subject is still offered in the high school particularly in the first year because we believed that it would really help them in the future.
V. Course Essential Questions
A. How can the topic in sewing help the students since modern technology in terms of making and producing clothes are just around the corner. B. How did science and technology change the belief of an individual that they still have to study the subject despite of all the gadgets available?C. Why do some do not like the subject? And why there are some who excel on this field?D. What benefits they can get after acquiring the skills in using and operating the sewing machine as well as skills in making a pattern for a specific garment.
