HATCHER, Charles Contracts Manager, T & J Constructions Pty Ltd
Like it or not our Industry is changing. We need to work with Government to maximise our opportunities – even in the current
economy there is enough Local, State and Federal funding for a sustainable Civil Industry here in SA. Right now the overly cautious
Government Departments have become risk managers rather than project managers and prefer to let big tenders to
multinationals. This limits opportunities for mid-tier SA Contractors who would otherwise be able to tender on the smaller packages
of work. Charles knows how Government works and has been successful in the Civil market, Charles sees a number of things that
need to change for our industry;
• Use SA Contractors to complete SA work – boost our local economy • Centralise Bank Guarantees/Security
• Singular Prequalification (DPTI/Vendor Panel/SA Water) • Partner with other bodies to plan and drive economic growth
