1.MetalMul-toolThiscomponentismadeoutofmildsteel.Thisparttookalong)metomakeduetothelargeamountofmetalfilingthat
hadtobedone.Firstthepiecehadtobecutfromalongmetalbartothedesireddimensionsof100x50mm.The2DAD
metalmul)-tooldesignwasprintedoutusingaprinter.Thispaperwasthenusedasaguidetoshowwhereeitherdrilling,
sawingormetalfillingneededtobedonetocreatethedesiredtool.Igluedthepaperguidetothemetalandthencentre
punchedmul)pleholesintothedesiredareas.Theythenhadtodrilledthroughwith5mmand12mmdrillbit.Themul)ple
holesaredrilledclosetogetherinordertokeepthefilingworktoaminimum,andalsousedahacksawtocutanypartsof
themetaloffwhichwereeasiertocutinsteadifdrilling.Ithenfiledthemetaldownusingmetalfilesandmetalneedlefiles
tomaketheedgessmooth.Italsotakesoffanyexcessmetaltoachievethedesireddimensions.Tofinishthemetaloff,
wirewoolwasusedtocleanupandtoremoveanygreasethemetalhadle_onit.IalsousedBrasso,whichpolishesthe
metalandthenitfinallyneedstobecleanedwithglasspaperwhichgivesitaaCrac)veshinyfinish.Whenallofthese
processeshavebeencompleted,differentshapeshavebeencutoutofthemetalallowingthemtoworkasamul)-tool.
2.PlascHandles(2.12.4)Thiscomponentisdesignedonacomputerusinga.A.D(omputeraideddesignprogramcalled2DDesign.Whenthe
designwascompleteitwassenttothe.A.M(omputeraidedmodellingmachine.The.A.Mmachinebeingusedwasa
lasercuCer.ThelasercuCercutthedesiredshapefromapieceofA3sizeacrylic.UseofthelasercuCerensuredthatthe
cutwouldbeaccurate.ThisisbecausethelasercuCerisaprecisionmachine,andbeingcomputercontrolled,thereisno
roomforhumanerrorwhenthispartiscutout.
Whentheshapehasbeencutoutfromthemachine,itwasnecessarytopushouttheblankplas)choleswherethelaser
hadcut.Theplas)cspacers(Part3werethengluedtotheplas)chandles.Plas)cHandlesPart2.1wasgluedusingaraldite
toaplas)cspacer(Part3,whichinturnwasgluedtoPart2.2.Thesameprocesswasrepeatedfortheplas)chandle2.3,
2.4andtheplas)cspacer(Part3separa)ngthem.
3.PlascSpacers(2)ThiscomponentwasonceagaindesignusingaADprogramandwascutoutusingaAMmachine,whichwasthelasercuCer.TheADandAMprocessesfortheplas)cspacersareiden)caltothoseoftheplas)cspacers.

1.Icouldhavedrilledoneortwoholesateitherendofthedesiredtoolareatoberemoved,andthendismantleajuniorhacksaw,sothatthebladeisinsertedintooneofthedrilledholes.Icouldthenre-assemblethejuniorhacksawandcouldthensawdownthemarked
dimensions.Thiswouldeventuallygivethedesireddimensionsbutaswitheverymethodavailable,alotofmetalfillingwouldneedtobe
done.EvenifIdidthecutasaccuratelyaspossible,thecutwouldnotbeasaccurateasitcouldbe.
2.AnothermethodwhichIcouldhaveemployedishainDrilling.Thisiswhenyoucentrepunchmul)pleholesintothemetal,andthendrillthroughthem.Themul)pleholesaredrilledclosetogether.Iwouldthenuseahacksawtocutanyexcessmetaloff,andwouldthenfilethe

completethetool.IfeelthatIhavefinishedthewholeproducttoahighstandard,whichisafundamentalpointofthe
wholeproject(andspecifiedintheDesignSpecifica=on).Ihavefurtherimprovedmyknowledgeonhowtousecertain
machineryanddesigningproductsonpaperandusingCADprogramssuchas2DDesignandGoogleSketchUp.Ihavealso
completedeverycomponentpartwithintheset=me,keepingthequalityofmyproductshighandthedimensionsofmy
