BuildingCoordinators:LizBennieandKimGrazianoThe Building Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that all persons in theirrespectivedepartmentsknowhowtoexitthebuildingintheeventofafireorotheremergency.They are also are responsible for identifying and educating floorrepresentatives and department coordinators in the COD about the Fire andWeather evacuation plans. The Environmental Compliance Officer is alsoresponsible for verifying that all individuals in each area have successfullycompletedFireSafetyTraining.Floor Representatives: Floor representatives are responsible for ensuring thatindividualsineachareaorbuildingknowthelocationofallfireextinguishers(seeAppendixA),fireexits,evacuationroutes,accessiblesafeareas(ontheeastsidesofthesecondfloor,forexample)andalarmsystems,andhowtousethem.Intheeventofanemergency,floorrepresentativesarealsoresponsibleforassistingallpersonsonthefloorexitthebuildingusingthestairwells;helpingeveryonestaycalmandnotpanic;andverifyingthatallpersonshaveevacuatedthefloor.
Department Coordinators: Each Department Coordinator is responsible formaintainingacurrentheadcountofpersonsintheirrespectivedepartments.Onceat their assigned Muster/Meeting Point (see Appendix B), each Coordinator isresponsible for accounting for all persons in their respective departments andrelayingthatinformationtotheBuildingCoordinators.

shallbeevacuatedupondiscoveryofafireandthatonlythosepersonswhohavereceivedpropertrainingintheuseofportablefireextinguishersshouldattempttoextinguishthefireinitsearlystages.
Ifafirecannotbeextinguished,thefirealarmshouldbeactivatedand/ora911callshouldbeplacedimmediately.Interiorfiresintheworkplaceposeagreaterhazardtopersonnel.Thesefirescanproducegreaterexposuretoquantitiesofsmoke,toxicgases, andheatbecauseof the capabilityof abuildingor structure to contain orentrapthesecombustionproducts.
AllCODpatients,students,faculty,staffandvisitorsareexpectedtreatallfirealarmsasactualemergenciesandfollowthestepsforevacuation.Itisnotappropriatetoassumethatanalarmisduetoadrilloraspuriousconditionjustbecausethereisnovisibleflameorsmokeinyourarea.ItisalsonotacceptabletocallCampusPolicetoaskifafirealarmis“real.”

Whenthefirealarmsounds,everyonemustevacuatethebuilding.Thefirealarminthisbuildingisaringingbell.
• WhenthefirealarmissoundedallpersonnelmustbegintoexitthebuildingbygoingtotheclosestmarkedEXIT.Allexitsaremarkedontheevacuationmaps,whicharelocatednexttoeachelevator.DONOTUSEELEVATORS.
• CampusPoliceareautomaticallynotifiedwhenthefirealarmisactivated.ItisnotnecessarytocontacttheCampusPoliceifthefirealarmissounding.
• All lit Bunsen burners and handheld torches shall be extinguished beforeevacuating.
• Hall Fire doors will automatically close when fire alarm is sounded.
• FloorRepresentativeswilldirectpeopletotheclosestexitsandensurethateveryone has evacuated their assigned floor before they proceed to theirdesignatedMuster/MeetingPoint(seeAppendixB).
• Supervisingclinicalfacultywillberesponsibleforthesafeevacuationofthestudentsandpatientsundertheirsupervisionasfollows:
§ Faculty, students andstaffwhoareprovidingcare toapatientare toremainwiththeirpatientsatalltimesand,ifpossible,takethemtotheirdesignatedMuster/MeetingPoint.
§ Oral Surgery patients who cannot exit the building safely should beaccompanied to the east stairwell and await the assistance of FireDepartmentpersonnel.
• Under no circumstancesmay anyone re-enter the building until a CampusPoliceofficerortheBuildingCoordinatorhasgivenapprovaltodoso.

SevereWeatherPlan:WeatherinOklahomacanchangequicklyanditmay,attimes,resultinaneedtoseekshelter.Shouldthisoccurwhileyouareinthebuilding,thefollowingisimportanttoremember:
• TheDean’sOfficemonitorstheforecastduringsevereweather.
• SirenswillsoundifthereisatornadowarningwithinoftheOklahomaCityarea.
• Shouldtherebeaneedtoseekshelter,anannouncementwillbemadeovertheintercomsystem.
• TheOUHSCEmergencyCommunicationSystem[ECS]willissuealertsintheeventofsevereweatherandotheremergencysituations.TheeffectivenessoftheECSisdependentontheaccuracyofthecontactinformationinthesystem;therefore,allstudents,facultyandstaffareencouragedtokeepECSinformationup-to-date.Ifyouhaveupdatedyourinformation,youwillreceiveatextmessage,email,and/orvoicemail.
• Students,residents,facultyandstaffshouldassistpatientsandvisitorsinseekingshelterintheareasmentionedbelow.

Ø Northhallway between the two inner hallway doors.Thesehallwaydoorsaresoliddoorswithmagneticholds.Intheeventthatthisareaneedstobeusedforshelterduringsevereweather,thedoorsshouldbemanuallypulledshutonbothendsofthehallwayonceeveryoneisinplace.(Note:Themagneticlocksonlyreleasewhenafirealarmissounded).
Ø Northeastandnorthwestinnerstairwells.(Note:Sheltershouldnotbesoughtabovethesecondfloorinthesestairwells.)
