BIRTHDAY OF JOHN WESLEY FOUNDER OF METHODISM OBSERVED BY CHURCH
A special worship service was observer# by Waldwick Methodist Church recently when the hyms and rituals included the original "Sunday Service” employed by John Wesley and his brother, Charles Wesley, exactly 250 years ago. The occasion was the celebration of the birthday $f John Wesley, the founder of Methodism branch of the Christianreligion.
Using as his sermon, “The Holy Habits of Christian Life,” Mr. Henson pointed out that it is sinful for any Protestant to absent himself from the House of God. The General Rules of Methodism given by Mr. Wesley and retained today, were repeated responsively by those present.
Miss Marjorie Frost was at the console for the organ prelude. Soloist was Mrs. Joseph Vjlleli and Miss Olive Havens led the choir.
At the close of the service, 19
new members were received into the fellowship of the church. They are Mrs. Ernest A. Breining, Mr. and Mrs. Norman J. Cavanagh, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Danis, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin foster, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Gibson,' Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Guernsey, Mrs. Sylvestus H. Henson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry O. Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Sanderson, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stark and Ray L. McCombs.
BERGEN & HUDSON FOLKS WILL ATTEND 8 DAY CONVENTION AT YANKEE STADIUM
More than 1,000 men and women will attend the 8-day international convention of Jeehowah witnesses opening July 19 at Yankee Stadium of New York City. There will be more than 125,000 delegations from all parts of the world for the occasion. Leonard A. Miller, presiding minister of Allendale unit will head 128 delegates The group -will travel by motor vehicles for the conclave. Hudson, Passaic and other Bergen 'County and New Jersey Witnesses are serving with New York congregations as the hosts to this convention.
Miller pointed out that Jehovah’s witnesses are coming from every state in the Union and nearly 100 countries to participate in the largest religious convention ever to be held in America. Charter planes carrying delegates from Africa,Europe and Latin America will soon converge on New York. Large delegations from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the Orient are already on the high seas. Some 18,000 Canadians are expected.
"It is significant in this materia
listic age,” Miller said, "that people will spend millions of dollars for the privilege of assembling together to worship Jehovah God. It will be a feast -for the mind on SPIRITUAL food. TRUE Faith in God GOD IS N O T DECLINING. Jehovah’s witnesses annually report world-wide increase of about 20 per cent in the number preaching. W e expect thousands more will be bap- tzized at the convention.”
