IntroductionThe Virginia Department of Forestry has beengrowingseedlingsforVirginialandownersformorethan100years.Whenyouputyourmoney inthegroundintheformofseedlings,youneedtostartwiththebeststockavailable;stocksuitedforVirginiasoilsandclimate.Theculturalpracticesthatweuseingrowingseedlingsinourseedbedsarebasedonmorethan60yearsofresearchandexperienceinqualityproduction.
In addition to thewide selection of bare-rootseedlings,we alsooffer specialty seedling packssuitableforvariouswildlifehabitats.Ourseedlingsaresolddirectlyfromtheseedbedwithoutreplanting,andseedlingageisindicatedwith1-0,2-0and3-0(one-,two-andthree-year-old).

ManylandownersacrossVirginiaarestartingtolookforways to accelerate early growth in their pineplantationsandcontainerizedseedlingsmaybeagreatwaytodothat.Containerseedlingsgrowatarapidpacewhenplantedatthecorrecttime.ThebesttimetoplantbarerootseedlingsinVirginiaisFebruarytoMarchbecauseofcoldweather.However,containerseedlingsarebestplantedinthefallandtheoverallplantingwindow ismuchmore extended.
