WATCH FILMS & EXPERIENCE EUROPE!
The EFA Young Audience Award has been an official category of the European Film
Awards since 2012.
A selection committee of European film experts pre-selects six films for an audience of 12-
14-year-olds. In a second step a children’s nomination committee of five kids from
different European countries then nominates three of those films.
On the day of the EFA Young Audience Award three nominated films are screened
simultaneously in 35 European countries.
The young audiences act as a jury and vote for their favourite film.
All participating cities interact with each other via video conference and social media.
Film professionals and film educators lead the discussions and workshops.
The highlight of the day is the ceremony in the evening, during which the children transmit
the results of the national votes - a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest.
The ceremony is streamed live at: yaa.europeanfilmawards.eu
THE EVENT FOR YOUNG FILM FANS IN EUROPE!
The EFA Young Audience Award:
offers the opportunity to discover European high-quality films
builds bridges between cultures, allowing for a meaningful and peaceful exchange of views
raises awareness of important social issues
empowers young people to be catalysts for positive change and allows them to develop a
sense of community and tolerance, as well as a greater understanding of their European
neighbours
Two aspects are key to success – the European and at the same time local dimension:
Local experience: Event takes place in a local theatre with other teenagers who are all
sharing the same passion for cinema, experiencing the whole day together.
European experience: Teenagers are virtually connected with the other audiences in 48
European cities.
THE AIM OF THE PROGRAM
ENHANCING THE VISIBILITY
What happens to the nominated films afterwards?

Our young audiences experience the EFA Young Audience Award as
an authentic pan-European event offering them a unique view of
their European neighbours and the world of European film.
THE KIDS: 12 – 14-year olds in all of Europe
Quote from a girl in Riga, Latvia:
„I want to take part in the jury because it is a great experience to see films from other countries and
what they are portraying in films, the culture and traditions of other people. I like to talk about what
everyone likes after watching movies, and what kind of insight they got from watching a particular
movie.“
Quote from a mother in London, UK:
„Thank you for Sunday – Elodie really enjoyed herself and is very keen to start Film Club in September
now.“
Quote from a girl in Izola, Slovenia:
„The thing I enjoy the most is that films are in different languages.“
Quote from a mother in Berlin, Germany:
„My son felt that he was taken serious and definitely wants to come back next year. He did not speak
much about his experience and the films on the same evening but he did so in the following days. The
films left a strong impression.“
