to technology.O There are many different types of sciences
fairs.O Anyone can be a scientist.O Science is apart of our everyday.O Science can be fun.
NotesGlobal Footprint
O What is a global or ecological footprint?
O Footprint Overview O Human activities consume resources and produce waste, and as
our populations grow and global consumption increases, it is essential that we measure nature’s capacity to meet these demands. The Ecological Footprint has emerged as one of the world’s leading measures of human demand on nature. Simply put, Ecological Footprint Accounting addresses whether the planet is large enough to keep up with the demands of humanity.
O Biocapacity can then be compared with humanity’s demand on nature: our Ecological Footprint. The Ecological Footprint represents the productive area required to provide the renewable resources humanity is using and to absorb its waste. The productive area currently occupied by human infrastructure is also included in this calculation, since built-up land is not available for resource regeneration.
NotesA global footprint is?
O The measurement of the impact of consumer usage of natural resources.
O Building and placesO EnergyO FoodO TransportO WasteO Water
O How is a global footprint measured?O It is measured by how many resources nations consume or use versus
how much they actually have to use.
OWhat are resources? OFood, water, land, energy,
etc.
HomeworkSo what does that mean for us today?
O How or what can you do to change your global footprint?
Footprint ActivityO In your group discuss and write down on
the white boards provided ways to improve your global footprint.
O Using the provided recycled paper trace your foot, someone from your group can help.
O Each person can choose on of the ways discuss to write inside their footprint.
O Cut your footprint out. O If time allows we will share around.O Collect them in the center of the table.O Clean up, prepare to be dismissed.
