SafeguardingAs parents and carers we cannot help but be aware of the high levels of media coverage in relation to bullying, on line safety, exploitation which encompasses violence, knife crime, drugs, grooming,
modern slavery and the links to County Lines nationally and locally faced by our children and young people. Added to which is the risk associated with Apps and chat rooms used by abusers, most
recently Roblox. At this time of year, with the schools broken up for the summer holidays, we want to take the opportunity to remind you that there are a number of organisations nationally and locally that
can support you if you have any concerns.
You can log onto Somerset choices https://choices.somerset.gov.uk/025/discussing-things which has comprehensive guidance and links to organisations that can assist you.
If you are concerned about your children or young people being targeted by criminal gangs and harming your community, you can call CrimeStoppers – speak up, stay safe, your information may result in identifying and arresting the criminals responsible and stop these gangs from harming our children and young people. You can report your concerns anonymously by ringing 0800 555111.

Skill up is a complimentary service to support the businesses and people of West Somerset.
The West Somerset Social Mobility Plan 2017-2020, developed in support of the Department for Education-funded West Somerset Opportunity Area Programme, identifies that the provision of specialist independent and impartial Apprenticeships and skills information and support locally could help more individuals and businesses in the area to realise their potential.
The service can be accessed via an online portal, www.skillupws.org.uk, which introduces Skill Up and provides information on Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Skills. The site signposts to opportunities, vacancies and information that may be of benefit. The portal also introduces the Skill Up team, who are there to help, and gives details of how to contact them.
Skill Up is not just a website, it is a service.
Marie Howard, the Skill Up Apprenticeships and Skills Adviser, provides information and support for your business to navigate the Apprenticeship and skills journey. You may be just starting out and looking for direction, or some way along and wanting to make sure you take the most efficient route. It could be just one burning question to clarify your understanding or thinking. If so, get in touch.

Telephone: 07395796297
Jane Parker, the Skill Up Information Adviser and Employment Coach, can provide information and support to any individual in the area and will be regularly available at West Somerset’s Employment Hubs. You could be looking for information and support to enter employment; to Skill Up for you, or for your next career move. To explore the opportunities available to you, get in touch with Jane.
