Fait-Safe Close and Fail-Safe OpenFail-safe close (FSC) and fail-safe open (FSO) E-Type gate valves are designed with fail safe spring return actuators, offering a flexible solution for ernergency shutdown valves (ESD) and other fail-safe applicat-ions. Fluid is applied to one side of the piston to move the gate, and a spring within the cylinder generates the energy for the opposite motion. The fail-safe actuator is a self-contained unit that allows for quick removal from the valve bonnet if necessary when the valve is still under line pressure. The design also allows for quick and easy main-tenance, and no drift adjustment is necessary to set the stroke.

63. ESD API Gate Valve
We provide Anson E-Type fail-safe valves as part of a complete emergency Shutdown (ESD) valve assembly. Generally situated upstream of the choke manifold, the standalone ESD valve is used to safely and quickly isolate the downstream equipment from the high-pressure wellbore fluids. These valves are critical to protecting personnel, equipment and the environment.
The ESD is used in conjunction with a control system to allow the valve’s remote operation. Closure times can be critical, and the ESD valve can be enhanced with the inclusion of a quick exhaust valve in the hydraulic return line, shutting the valve in less than five seconds.
Generally, the ESD valve will be supplied enclosed in a skid frame and include inlet and outlet crossovers. Skids can be provided per DNV 2.7-1.
We also supply wellhead pneumatic surface safety valves, as part of our surface safety products (SSP) product line. lncluding Axelson’” type actuators, we have the most extensive offerings of remote-controlled monitoring and actuator systems in the industry. Our SSP pneumatic actuator can be supplied with the Anson E-Type body and internals, incorporating two field-proven and trusted product lines.

Anson E-Type gate valves are available with double acting (DA) hydraulic actuators and double Acting with manual override (DAO). Fluid is supplied to connections below and above the piston, the pressure operates the valve, and in turn the gate to open or close.

Additional corrosion protection can be applied to certain areas of the gate valve to increase the service life of the equipment. For material classes

Fully customizable manifold assemblies for well service & control
Mento have considerable experience in the design and manufacture of manifolds used across several applications and often to a bespoke design. The manifolds can be comprised of Anson gate valves, plug valves, Master flo choke valves, as well as API studded blocks and hammer union fittings. We design and assemble all the major components used within our manifolds, giving us full control over the project from start to finish.
In addition to layout and design choices for manifolds, we also offer variations for the type of actuation to suit your requirements, either manual operation (handwheel) or choice of actuation, operated by a control system from a remote location. The most common manifolds that we produce is the standpipe and choke & kill manifold. These manifolds are used in several applications both onshore and offshore. They are an arrange-ment of shut off valves and choke valves, designed for controlling and reducing surface well pressure upstream of the process equipment. Two choke valves are incorporated within the assembly to allow the manifold to function at all times, even if service needs to performed on one of them.

Choke & kill manifold
A choke manifold is the primary means of control-ling surface well flow and pressure using a system of shutoff valves and choke valves. Dependent upon the application, the shut off valves would either be Anson plug valves or E-type gate valves and choke valves. Using a mix of adjustable (with handwheel/ actuated) or positive (fixed bean) choke valves, the manifold controls the flow rate and reduces well pressure ahead of downstream processing equip-ment.
The number of valves, configuration of the mani-fold, and choice of actuation are customizable. We work with you to ensure that the design is perfectly suited to your application.
Standpipe manifold
A mud standpipe manifold is installed downstream of the mud pumps with the purpose of diverting the flow of drilling fluids toward the drill line or drill string. Standpipe manifolds are designed and manufac-tured to suit customer requirements and are avail-able in working pressure up to 7500 psi. Construc-tion is available in weld end, flange end, hub end
or hammer union type. The manifold comprises of mud gate valves, forged manifold fittings, bleed off choke, pressure sensors and local pressure gauges. We use mud gate valves from Anson and choke valves from Master flo as standard. We work with you to ensure that the design is perfectly suited to your application.
Debris catcher manifold
The debris catcher (Junk catcher) manifold is used in flowback operations to protect downstream equip-ment from impact damage from large particles. The manifold is comprised of either Anson plug valves or e-type gate valves and an Mento design debris catcher. This can be single leg (one catcher) or dual leg (two catchers). The dual leg design enables zero downtime, as when one strainer line is being cleared the other strainer can be used.
The debris catcher contains a filter (screen) that catches and retains large solids. As part of the flowback system, the debris catcher manifold is positioned upstream of the choke manifold to protect the chokes and equipment downstream.
Mento`s debris catchers are available with fine mesh filters included with the screen to remove smaller particles from the process flow.

Applying Torque to Flanges & Bonnets
Scope 1. This specification details the requirements for controlled bolting of API 6A Flange connections and Gate Valve Bonnets including methods that shall be used when applying controlled bolting to these connections.
2. Values stipulated in the enclosed tables 1 and 2 (Flange Connections) are extracted from values recommended in API 6A 19thedition
Application 3. This document shall be used as an internal procedure for assembly of the above connections for API 6A equipment.
4. If issued to end users of this equipment it may be used as a recommended practice.
Procedure 5. Prepare the connection for assembly, RTJ grooves and Bonnet seal areas should be clean and free from foreign matter.
6. API Flanges-Place a seal into one of the flanges and bring the two flanges together. Seals must be free of all grease. If the configuration of the connection is such that the seal may fall out of position during the mating of the two halves, the seal may be held in position using a thin stiff card that can be easily withdrawn once the two alves are together.
7. Gate Valve Bonnets-The recommended method is to install the seal onto the body seal area then lower the bonnet over the studs locating over the seal and body. Grease should NOT be applied to the seal or seal areas.
8. Place the required quantity of studs c/w nuts into the connection, threads and nut face should be lubricated during assembly, make up hand tight. (Ref. Lubrication Section).
9. Torque shall be applied to the connection using one of the following methods
• Torque wrench and socket.
• Calibrated hydraulic torque equipment.
10. The required final torque setting for the connection shall be obtained from table 1, table 2 for Flange connections and table 3 Bonnet Connections. Torque shall be applied to each nut on the connection in the sequence shown in fig 1 at 25% of this figure.
11. Torque shall then be applied at 50%, then 75% and final 100% of the required torque using the same sequence. As an aid to assembly each bolting position in the connection shall be numbered in this sequence.

*The lubrication period should be considered as a minimum requirement under favourable operating conditions. Severe service may require a more frequent application of lubricant. In particular gate and plug valves being used on sandy or abrasive service or high flow rates will require more frequent application of body filler / sealant.
** Plug Valve sealant / grease will oxidise or become contaminated during normal use of the valve. Oldsealant cannot be totally displaced by re-injection. Valves must be dismantled and serviced to remove old sealant.

Differences between Ring Type Joint GasketsRTJ gaskets are precision machined from solid metal and are designed for high pressure and high tempera-ture services. They seal by creating very high unit load, metal-to-metal line contact with special mating flang-es. Metals are typically chosen so that thering gasket is softer than the flange material in order to prevent damage to the flanges and thereby causing plastic flow of the gasket into the flange faces. The design of the gasket or cross section is chosen based on the existing flange configuration and designed maximum system pressure. Gasket and flange surface finishes and dimensional accuracy along with gasket hardness must be carefully controlled in order to obtain and maintain an effective seal. Style R • Available in oval and octagonal cross-sections • R gaskets are interchangeable on modern octagonal flat bottom grooved flanges • Standard sizes of Style R gaskets are manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.20 and API 6A specifica-tions Style RX • Style RX ring joint has a unique self-sealing action. The outside bevels of the ring make the initial contact providing a seal against the groove’s outer surfaces. As the internal pressure increases, so does the gasket loading stress against the groove thus improving the gaskets sealing characteristics • Design features of the Style RX gasket make it more resistant to shock load, test pressure shock and drilling vibration • Style RX ring joints are completely interchangeable with standard Style R groove designs. Care should be taken when interchanging these styles as RX gaskets are taller and will add length to the finished assembly Style BX • Style BX gaskets have a pitch diameter slightly larger than the groove pitch diameter. This allows for initial contact to be made on the outside of the ring, pre-loading the gasket which creates a pressure ener-gized seal • All Style BX gaskets incorporate a pressure passage to enable trapped pressure to balance itself in the joint • Style BX ring joint gaskets can only be used with API BX flanges and are not interchangeable with Style RX
