Naval Hospital Okinawa Status
• Original SACO report completion date delayed due to difficulty with local and national political issues
• Demo is complete; Groundbreaking ceremony originally scheduled for Mar/Apr 2007
• Preliminary Cultural Asset test dig is complete. The test dig results require a full Cultural Asset Survey (CAS)
– Requiring a full CAS may be a possible delay tactic by the GOJ – CAS contract has been awarded for the utilities portion of the project. At this time,
there is no CAS contract for the Hospital/CPU, supporting facilities, others –Ginowan City and Okinawa Prefectural Government are in charge of coordinating and
contracting these surveys. A tentative phasing plan has been formulated
• GOJ’s construction plan has 10 phases that include CAS, followed by construction. Completion of phases 1 – 5, allows for an operational hospital in 2011 with phases 6 – 10 to follow (No schedule has been provided by GOJ)
