Principal’s Corner Dear Escalante-Biggs Academy Community,

Fall is here and we are working hard to make certain ALL students attending EBA are

succeeding. We continuously rely on the professional knowledge of our teachers and daily work

of students to assess the needs of our students and ensure quality instruction for ALL students. In

addition, student engagement and parent engagement are keys to our success at Escalante-Biggs.

We value all of our families and recognize that “it takes a village to raise a child.” We hope that

all parents take the opportunity to attend parent-teacher conferences on November 3rd. More

information about parent-teacher conferences will be coming soon. We also value collaborative

decision making between the school and the parent community and want to formally invite

parents to attend our Collaborative School Committee (CSC) and Parent Teacher Organization

(PTO) meetings. CSC meets on the first Thursday of each month from 4:30 – 5:30pm and PTO

meets the first Thursday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am and 3:15pm – 4:00pm.

Furthermore, we encourage parents to volunteer in classrooms and participate in community

events. Please check EBA’s website for updated information, read the EBA and classroom

newsletters, and read notes from CSC and PTO meetings. Lastly, do not hesitate to share ideas

with us through email or face-to-face visits. Thank you for partnering with us.

Book Trust Celebration

We invite families to join us for our book

trust celebration on Tuesday, October 31st. Book Trust is a program that allows our students to select books each month for their home library. We would like to celebrate this gift of books with you and your child. Please plan on joining us for

story time and potluck. Families may sign up for the potluck with their child’s

teacher. This is NOT a Halloween celebration, so please NO costumes for

students, siblings or family members. We hope you can join us for this fun event.

Friendly Reminders

• Breakfast is served from 8:00 – 8:30 • Safety is a priority at Escalante Biggs

Arrival - Families may enter the building at 8:30 through the cafeteria or the double doors near the gym. Dismissal is at 3:10 from classroom outside doors. Please be on time to pick up and drop off your child.

• All students need to be dressed appropriately for the weather daily.

Student Engagement Corner

The Student Engagement Committee (SEC) would like to thank our Escalante-Biggs Academy staff,

teachers, paras, and support staff, for making our first Student Assembly a huge success. Thank you

ALL for supporting our school rules of: BEE Responsible, BEE Respectful, BEE Safe.

On Monday, your child will take home their order forms for chocolate sales. Please help your child sell chocolate to earn prizes and to support our

school. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation and support.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

We will have conferences on November 3rd to discuss your child’s progress. More information

will follow. Please remember that conferences are with parents or guardians. Please plan to attend.

Escalante Biggs Health and Wellness Corner INEP Nutrition in the classroom!! Did you know that students in all grades at Escalante Biggs will be learning about healthy eating in the classroom? Teachers use INEP curriculum to teach about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables through fun hands-on cooking activities. Students get to prepare and taste healthy recipes in the classroom. Ask your kids to tell you about their fun nutrition classes and look for the recipes and newsletters coming home! Nutrition for Adults too - INEP is partnering with your school to bring you a Free text messaging program. The program provides creative recipes and weekly wellness tips. Escalante Biggs Wellness Program- The wonderful teachers at Escalante are launching a new wellness program! Have fun learning about kickboxing, body sculpting, and even yoga with your kids! Universal screening is considered best practice to identify students who may need extra supports and to get them the resources they need so they can become better learners. Querida Comunidad de Escalante-Biggs Academy,

El otoño está aquí y todos estamos trabajando para asegurar que todos los estudiantes de EBA

tengan éxito. Nuestros maestros continuan trabajando diario para evaluar las necesidades de

nuestros estudiantes y garantizar una enseñanza de calidad para todos. Además, el apoyo de los

padres y el Comité Estudiantil son claves para nuestro éxito en Escalante Biggs Academy.

Nuestras familias son muy importante y reconocemos que necesitamos todos trabajar juntos

para educar a un niño. Esperamos que todos los padres puedan asistir a conferencias de padres y

maestros el 3 de noviembre. Recibirán más información sobre las conferencias del maestro de

su hijo/a. Valoramos la toma de decisiones en collaboración entre la escuela y la comunidad.

Queremos invitar formalmente a los padres a asistir a nuestro Comité de Colaboración Escolar

(CSC) y las reunions de Padres y Maestros (PTO). El comité de CSC se reúne el primer jueves

de cada mes de 4:30-5:30 y PTO se reúne el primer jueves de cada mes de 8:45 am-9:30 am y

3:15 pm – 4:00 pm. Tambien los invitamos a ser voluantarios en las clases y participar en

eventos de la escuela. Por favor, consulte la página web de EBA para obtener más información,

lea los boletines de la escuela y del salón de su hijo/a. Por ultimo, si gustan compartir su ideas

Celebración de “Book Trust”

Invitamos a familias a nuestra celebración de

“book trust” el mártes, 31 de octubre. “Book Trust” es un programa que permite a

nuestros estudiantes a obtener libros de “Scholastic” para su propio colección de libros. Nos gustaría celebrar el regalo de libros con ustedes. Esperamos que nos

puedan acompañar para lectura interactiva y un convivio. Familias pueden indicar que

pueden traer para el convivio con el maestro de su hijo/a. Este NO es celebración de

“Halloween”, por favor NO disfraces para estudiantes, hermanos y familiares.

Esperamos que nos puedan acompañar para este día divertido.

El Comité de Participación Estudiantil (SEC) quiere agradecer a nuestro personal de

Esquina de salud y bienestar de la escuela Escalante Biggs

¡Nutrición INEP en el salón de clase! ¿Sabe que los estudiantes de todos los grados de Escalante Biggs estarán aprendiendo sobre la alimentación saludable en la clase? Los maestros utilizan el currículo de INEP para enseñar sobre la importancia de comer frutas y verduras con actividades de cocina divertidas. Los niños preparan y prueban recetas saludables. ¡Pida a sus hijos que le cuente sobre las clases divertidas de nutrición y busque las recetas y boletines que llevan a la casa! Nutrición para Adultos – INEP está trabajando con su escuela para traerle un programa de mensajes de texto GRATIS. El programa ofrece recetas creativas y consejos semanales de bienestar. La porción sobre la salud del reconocimiento universal NO es una evaluación ni un examen. Los reconocimientos universales son una mejor práctica preventiva para identificar a los estudiantes que necesitan apoyo adicional y proporcionarles los recursos necesarios para que aprendan mejor. El objetivo de la porción sobre la salud del reconocimiento preventivo universal es: identificar cuanto antes a los estudiantes que podrían correr el riesgo de presentar problemas de salud que influyen en la capacidad para alcanzar ciertas marcas de desempeño académico. Se harán los siguientes exámenes preventivos a su estudiante:

vista, oído, salud dental e índice de masa corporal En la escuela de su estudiante se realizarán estos reconocimientos médicos en las siguientes

fechas: 25, 30, 31 de Octubre Se notificará por escrito a los padres/tutores legales de los estudiantes que estuvieron ausentes o que no obtuvieron un resultado óptimo en los exámenes del oído, la vista o la salud dental. Si no desea que su hijo participe o se le haga alguno de los exámenes del reconocimiento preventivo universal, indíquelo a continuación y entregue este formulario en la escuela de su hijo. Si NO recibimos su respuesta, daremos por sentado que desea que su estudiante participe en todos los exámenes del reconocimiento preventivo universal. Comuníquese con el enfermero escolar si tiene alguna inquietud o pregunta acerca de estos reconocimientos médicos. Gracias por su colaboración para educar y apoyar juntos a su estudiante.
