RESEARCH INTEREST

My research interest is in geological oceanography notably coastal processes and sediment mobility. I has lead 14 research projects and completed more than 11 research projects funded by various agencies (such as National Science and Development Council and International Atomic Energy Agency). Additionally, I am the assessor for the UMT Journal of Sustainability Science and Management, and the Bulletin of Geological Society of Malaysia. I have be as author or co–author of over 100 scientific articles in journals and proceedings (local and international), 8 monographs, 20 reports and one book translation. Recently, 3 articles have been submitted for publication in journal. I was listed as an outstanding scientist by Marquis Who’s Who and International Biographical Centre (IBC), Cambridge, England for the year of 2007. I gained experience in a fellowship programme in 1995 at Skidaway Institute of Oceanography under International Atomic Energy Agency. I also gained experience in a Japanese Scientific Promotion Society programme in 1994 at Department of Ocean Civil Engineering, Kagoshima University and Department of Geoscience, Hokkaido University. Other than various training abroad, I was imparted various training including geological, coastal processes, coastal

management and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) courses. I was also employed as principal consultant in various projects such as Environmental Sensitivity Index Mapping (Esso and Petronas), EIA of Petroleum Refinery, Bintulu (Petronas), Oil Drilling and Exploration (Petronas) and Underwater Transmission Cable for Bakun Project (Ekran Sdn. Bhd.). I also gained experience in various oceanographic expeditions such as series of Matahari Expeditions in the South China Sea, Marine Field project in the Atlantic Ocean covering an area from Florida to Bahamas waters and series of oceanographic samplings in the sea around Malaysia (such as the sea off Tanjung Datu, Bintulu Sarawak, Straits of Malacca and the sea around Penang.)
