1. Undergone Cooperative Extension Training regarding the promotion of

University Cooperatives and carried out Post Doctoral Research at

Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan during 1992-93, with a fellowship

from National Federation of University Cooperative Associations

(NFUCA), Japan. This 8 months training and research involved on the job

exposure at various levels of decision making and execution. Visits to

different types of cooperatives and discussion with both academic and

activist groups have helped in developing an insight into the modus

operandi of working of Consumer Cooperatives in Japan. Based on this

experience I have developed study curriculum and training modules in the

area of cooperative management.

2. Japan Foundation Fellow (2000) at College of Policy Science, Ritsumeikan

University, Kyoto, Japan. Worked on ‘Workers Cooperatives in Japan’.

This work was carried out in association with Prof. Kiyofumi

KAWAGUCHI. This work has lead to further collaborative work with

other Universities.

3. Visiting Overseas Researcher (2008-09) at Graduate University of

Advanced Studies, National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka, Japan. Carried

out joint research with Prof. Masayuki DEGUCHI on the issue of

‘Governance of Civil Society Organisations in Japan’.

4. Japan Foundation Fellow (2013-14) at University of Tokyo, Japan. Carried

out research on the University Co-operative Business Consortiums and their

relevance to co-operatives and small businesses in Asian countries.

ANNEXURE 17 PROMOTION OF THIRD SECTOR STUDIES AND RESEARCH

1. COORDINATOR, TSRGI: Founder Member. The Third Sector

Research Group, India (TSRGI) was founded in 1993. This network of researchers, which began as an informal entity with three researchers from one university, has today expanded in to a major research group in India with 80 members from Five southern States of India. TSRGI is an interdisciplinary research group and many researchers in the group have joint research activities. TSRGI was instrumental in organizing the Fourth ISTR Asia Pacific Regional Conference in Bangalore.

2. COORDINATOR, TSRRC: Third Sector Research Resource Centre (www.tsr.uni-mysore.ac.in) is a centre for research resources and collaborative studies at the University of Mysore. This centre, managed by an interdisciplinary Coordination Committee provides centralized facility for researchers in the field of Third Sector. The centre is also equipped to undertake training and consultancy activities. An infant setup established during 2002, this centre is becoming an important destination for young researchers working in varied areas of third sector.

3. CURRICULUM DESIGN: Designed the Masters’ program in non profit management at the University of Mysore. Titled as Master of Management of Non Profit Organisations (MMNPO) and run by the Vivekananda Institute of Leadership Development (www.vild.org) this course is the first of its kind in India. Currently teaching the first batch of this new program. Designed the MBA (Cooperation and Banking) program in 2007. This is an exclusive program for the staff of the Urban Cooperative Banks in India.

4. EDITORIAL WORK: Serving in the Editorial Boards of two Journals in Kannada. Arivu Baraha (Knowledge and Expression) an independent social science journal and Abhivruddhi Adhyayana (Development Studies) brought by the Knnada University are the two journals that focus on various regional developmental and social issues. Editorial Advisory Committee member for TSRRC Journal (E-Journal of TSRRC) and the Management Journal of Acharya Institute of Management, Bangalore.

5. LIAISONING: Working and negotiating with various universities and study centres to incorporate in their curriculum various elements of social economy, cooperatives, non profit studies and participatory research methods
